    Consistently Flavorful
I’ve enjoyed El Volcan since it was part of the Allegro Coffee lineup. That line became a house brand and the price was raised and never goes on sale.I still keep watch for a sale price. Otherwise, there are plenty of bulk coffee vendors that offer a more reasonable price.

    Light Roast with Light Flavor
This 12 ounce package of Whole Foods Market, El Volcan Light Roast Whole Bean Coffee, Mandarin Orange, Honey and Brown Sugar, is the second coffee we have tried from Whole Foods, and the first whole bean coffee. We love that their coffees are ethically sourced so that is always a bonus. The first thing we noticed was the freshness – this bag has a best by date that is over 4 months away. It is packed full of beans, so you get a good amount, although value-wise, I feel that the price is a bit on the high side..While the coffee smells amazing, the taste was a bit of a let down due to it being weak. It is a light roast but we were hoping the flavor would be a bit stronger. Next time we will go with medium roast or stronger. Despite that, it does have a smooth taste that is lightly acidic.

    Very Good Light Roast
Update:I’m at the end of the bag and I have really enjoyed this. I stumbled on the right amount of oat milk for my latte (8-9oz) by accident (ran out of oat milk while pouring a latte) and , when I used much less, it really brought out an almost caramel flavor that I enjoyed so much. I woke up really looking forward to having my latte. Also reduced my oat milk usage, which helps me save. Plan to purchase more.—————-Very good light roast coffee beans. It has great flavor with a little bit lighter roast, and it works really well as espresso in a latte. I add just a tad bit less oat milk with it than I do med or dark beans. I’ve tried several Whole Foods coffee bean varieties of different roast levels and I’ve enjoyed each of them very much and the prices are great.

    Pleasant light roast
This review is for the Whole Foods Market El Volcan light roast whole bean coffee. This is a pleasant light roast that is easy to grind. It smells aromatic and fresh once ground, and makes a nice morning pot of coffee. Even though it’s a light roast, it doesn’t feel too thin in the body and is nicely drinkable. While I usually go for darker roasts, this one is quite nice.

    Slight sour aftertaste
Based on taste alone (finely and freshly ground in my coffee grinder and used in my espresso machine), it’s not my cup of…coffee. While “mandarin orange and honey” sounded delightful on the packaging, I did pick up notes of it, but I couldn’t really get around the overall sourness of the El Volcan whole beans. I think had Whole Foods roasted the same beans a little longer, it would’ve tamped the sourness. Also, the bag arrived with a very short expiration date that expires only three months out. While whole coffee beans will keep for a long while, especially if unopened, it also tells me it’s also not the freshest beans. And, I find it a little overpriced for what it isn’t — it isn’t organic and not single origin, or at least it makes no mention of it anywhere on the bag.

Good coffee, but expiration dates are too short
I trust that anything that I buy from Whole Foods will be of decent quality and value, and this coffee is no exception. I tried this light roast coffee in my espresso machine, and it pulls decent shots with OK crema, but it’s a little weak for my liking. It’s been a variable experience for me whether coffee beans I buy from Amazon will be fresh, and in this case, the expiration dates are in just a few months, meaning they were roasted a long time ago. It’s hard to evaluate these beans against a local roaster where they were just roasted a few days ago, not potentially months ago.

    Nice, subtle flavors
I like the coffee, the brown sugar is nice and the orange isn’t too much. We have a new place in Florida and were expecting guests so I thought something with orange would be nice. I ordered this and some orange flavored chocolates as well. The coffee was a hit, the chocolates were not. I always trust Whole Foods products.

    Smooth & Energizing Light Roast
I got this coffee for my husband, and he absolutely loves it! The quality is excellent, and it’s a perfect way to get a boost of energy on tough mornings. The flavor is smooth, light, and has a nice balance of mandarin orange, honey, and brown sugar notes. Definitely a great choice for light roast lovers!
