Great for the price
Iâm not a heavy coffee drinker anymore. I enjoy a cup once or twice a week. I didnât want to buy an expensive machine after my negreaos machine stopped working. This machine is a great deal for me. I get the frothed and the espresso and much more. I will wait a year to give a a five star if it merits.

Good value espresso machine
This Sur La Table kitchen essentials espresso machine is just alright. It’s very easy to set up and operate. The machine is mostly made of plastic and some of the parts feel a little cheap. The milk frother can’t be used independently and it doesn’t heat up well which means the cappuccino and latte don’t come out hot so they need reheating. The espresso shots brew fast and the buttons can be customized to measure out the exact amount you want which is pretty cool. Overall this espresso machine works good, it’s a good value and a good starter machine but it’s lacking in some areas.

Solid Machine But Read Below For Important Info You Need to Know The Instructions Don’t Address
First I’ll get right to the point regarding my headline above. When you put the lid back on the milk reservoir after filling it with milk there is a little wheel on the back of the reservoir that acts as a locking mechanism and you must turn it to the right to a straight up position to lock the lid. Although there is a little picture above this wheel showing “unlocked” and “locked” we did not see it and simply put the lid back on and prepared the machine for a latte; however, the latte lights on the touchscreen were grayed out and would not work and we couldn’t figure out why. The instructions don’t say anything about it, but overall I’d say the instructions are pretty good.. Finally we figured out what we were supposed to do and everything worked fine. So just a heads up to make sure you lock the lid on the back of the milk reservoir if you want a latte. As for the milk frother itself it does a wonderful job of frothing the milk.Something else that was initially difficult to use was the portafilter. Once you position it correctly you must turn it to your right so the handle is pointing straight toward you. At first it took a lot of pressure to turn that portafilter, enough so that it would actually lift the machine up off the counter a little bit. As we have brewed more coffee and lattes the portafilter has become much easier to turn and lock into place. So beware it may be difficult to turn for a while. This is the first espresso/latte machine we have owned so we are rookies at using one but now that we’ve gotten the hang of it I really like this machine. We tried brewing all the available options: espresso, cappuccino and lattes and they’ve all been real tasty. I do wish the machine would brew the drinks a little hotter. I typically have to put my drinks back in the microwave to get them hotter. The disassembly and cleaning process seems to work well so far, although we are not at the point of having to descale the unit so I can’t comment on that right now. We are using distilled water and not tap water. For the price I think this unit is an excellent value as these types of machines can run hundreds more dollars than this one.
