nice looking set, but the bowl is very small
bought this set as a gift for someone new to matcha. it arrived in a white box with a red ribbon tied around it. unfortunately, amazon placed it inside a thin plastic envelope, without any padding. of course, it did not protect the content which arrived damaged. the main attraction – ceramic bowl was broken into two large pieces and many small ones. one side of the bowl stamped small white flower., which was not pictured. the whisk and the scoop look fine and should be ok to use. for presentation, the dark bamboo looks nice, though (as someone mentioned) had to say if it was dark bamboo or painted.fyi: no dimensions of the bowl are listed. it is about 3.5 inches in diameter and shallow. just be aware that whisking matcha in such a shallow vessel is a challenge. the whisk is standard in size, so to use it for whisking matcha, one would need a wider and deeper bowl (about 4.3 inches by 3 inches plus).this set and the box would make a nice gift, as long as the bowl is used for things like drinking prepared tea or serving sweets, etc.

Durable and whisks perfectly
I’ve used it pretty much every day for the past few weeks and it’s still in great shape. I don’t think the bowl or the bamboo scooper are necessary though, unless you’re giving it away as a gift. Would have been great to have had the option to just buy the whisk and holder separately for less.

The texture at the bottom of the matcha bowl (chawan) puts extreme wear on the matcha whisk (chasen).

Nice Matcha tea set at a reasonable price. I ordered this mainly for the purple bamboo whisk, scoop & the whisk stand which, at the time I could not order without the bowl. The bowl is a heavy ceramic, dark, espresso brown that coordinates well with the dark bamboo pieces. The whisk stand is well made ceramic with a shiny, glazed finish. My set also included a sample envelope of Matcha tea. It is a bit bland but a nice introduction to Matcha if this set is purchased as a gift. Pleased with the quality and appearance however the bowl is quite a bit smaller than all of my other Matcha Chawans that I purchased separately. If you like to make lattes, this bowl will be too small as the tea/milk will slosh out in all directions while whisking. See pic for size difference.**Also, as there were no care instructions in the box or stamped on the bottom of the bowl, I emailed the seller to ask if it was dishwasher safe but I never received an answer. My advice is to wash it by hand to be safe.OCTOBER/2018 UPDATE: Despite taking meticulous care of my matcha whisks, (I own 2), the chasen stand did NOT prevent mold growth. The tines are turning a greenish black and there are black spots growing on the underside of the handles. I ALWAYS rinse them thoroughly after each use and wipe them dry before storing right side up on the stand. I’m switching to using a flat bottom stainless steel whisk as the stand cannot prevent the bamboo from becoming toxic. Very disappointing.
