High Quality Dark Roast Organic Coffee
This coffee is great! The flavor is bold but not bitter. This one is very much a dark coffee. I save so much money making this at home rather than going to a coffee shop. I like that is comes fresh roasted in the whole bean. I know its fresh because some of the grounds lightly clump to the grinder when I dump them into the brew basket. I love the strong aroma of the coffee before and especially after grinding, but my wife does not. My point is you must be a fan of very dark coffee to throughly enjoy this coffee. I love it and to keep it fresh because it comes in a non resealable 2 lb bag, I keep it in a ziplock bag in a dark cupboard, one that I only use for coffee, because the light is not good for your beans. 2 lbs is large amount of coffee, depending on my amount of drinking each month of week I have had times where I have ran out before my next delivery and I have had only a half of a pound used when the next 2 lb box arrived. There are other variety of coffees from this same company but I don’t care. This is the only coffee I drink at my house and will remain that way until they stop making it. I use the used grounds for composting and have no worries about it because this is organic coffee with out any nasty chemicals.

Affordable, deep rich flavor, and organic
I’ve ordered dozens of dark coffees and tried them all in both a Cuisinart 12-cup machine and a glass vacuum pot. The flavors, the oil content, and the bitterness differ dramatically based on how dark coffees are brewed. In the Cuisinart, you get a darn good cup of coffee for a autobrew system… but it will never taste the same as the same coffee brewed in a vacuum pot. This Peruvian Dark, done in the Cuisinart, has some light bitterness (as others have complained about…), a moderate oil content on the top of each cup, and the flavor is good-to-great. In the glass vacuum pot with water run through a Brita, it’s the greatest coffee I’ve ordered and our favorite for winter mornings! No bitterness, a complexity that makes you savor the flavor, and a smell that fills the house. Use a coffee mug with a thin lip – Starbucks sells several. Like wine, you want it to spread across your tongue and open up all the flavor you can get out of it. I recommend this coffee, especially if you’re going to brew it in a way that optimizes it’s flavors!

Smooth, dark, complex organic whole bean coffee from a great company
As a regular drinker of Altura’s Cafe Altura Organic Coffee, Biodynamic French Roast, Whole Bean, 32-Ounce Bag for two years, I was looking to try something different. I found the Cafe Altura Organic Coffee, San Francisco Blend, Whole Bean, 32-Ounce Bag to be too light and found the earthiness of the Café Altura Organic Coffee, Colombian Dark, Whole Bean, 32-Ounce Bag a bit off-balance. Then I tried the Peruvian Dark: strong but smooth, rich chocolate tones, and bright aromas. The beans are slightly less oily than the French Roast, and the acidity of this coffee is very low. If you love dark roasts, you will look forward to waking up each morning to this brew. This is also a wonderful deal on Amazon for high quality organic.

    90% EXCELLENT COFFEE
Before I begin, you have to realize I’m one of the world’s fussiest coffee drinkers. To wit: I bought a burr grinder because it is gentler on beans and reduces the bitterness coffee can have. And, of course, I grind fresh every morning. The first week or two I was very impressed with the results. The coffee, while not as robust as some others, was very satisfying. after all. it is Peruvian, organic, and shade-grown. However, since this is a 2-lb. bag and lasts me a month, it has begun to lose its flavor. As a result, it is more ordinary, although not really bad. Perhaps I’ll try the Dark Roast next time.So my recommendation really depends on how quickly you will use it up.

    Horrible flavor
I decided to try this coffee despite some of the bad reviews. I LOVE Cafe Altura’s French Roast. It is wonderfully rich and smooth and so good that I crave it. This Peruvian Dark smells wonderful but tasted like it had been sitting on the warmer for an hour or two. To me it tasted burnt. It was bad enough it made me feel sick to my stomach and couldn’t drink more than 1/2 cup. Maybe if you use a flavored creamer it would be ok, but I don’t like cream in my coffee. Altura makes wonderful coffee as long as you pick the right flavor. This wasn’t the flavor for me.

    Super Coffee!
I wanted an organic coffee to try so I thought, based on the reviews, I would try this! To my surprise, the reviews were right! It has to be the best coffee I have ever tried. My husband has been buying roasted coffee from someone locally that everyone raves about. He tried this coffee and he says it is way better than the locally fresh roasted coffee he has been getting. Every time he has a cup, he says “this is excellent coffee”. We’ve been buying it for a year now and I’m getting pretty tired of him saying that, but, he is right! We can’t use the 2 lbs up very fast so we freeze most of it in glass jars and just take it out and grind it each time we make it. It stays tasting great to the last bean!
