Wow. Quality is even better than expected.
I’m kinda floored by this thing. First impressions, it is heavy. Like 2 lbs heavy. The machining finish is beautiful all around. The wood is smooth and well finished and while it does display a logo, there are no weird Amazon brand names to be found. The logo is quite classy really.How this works:There are two springs in the unit. The first is a very light pressure spring that attaches to the collar. The collar is precision machined and matched to the shaft so that it slides up and down easily, but cannot wobble or move off perpendicular. When the collar engages the top of the portafilter, the light pressure spring compresses and the tamping plate travels straight down into the portafilter. There is second spring in the shaft, between the handle and the tamping plate that is weight calibrated. This spring is changeable. The tamper comes pre installed with a 25lb spring and there is a 20lb and 30lb spring in the box, a long with tools to change the spring. As you push down, the collar spring compresses until the tamping plate touches the coffee and then you feel more resistance as the calibrated spring kicks in. You simply press a little further to slightly compress the calibrated spring, and you’re done. The trick here is to not bottom out the calibrated spring, or you will just be directly applying force to the puck.25lbs is a lot less force than you think when pressing down. I have no doubts that this tamper comes a going to provide me consistently in tamping for years to come and it goes be me peace of mind that I am able to eliminate another variable in my pursuit of the perfect shots.I can’t recommend it enough. After holding this thing in my hands and using it, I would’ve been willing to pay a fair bit more to own it. The quality level is just not something that you see anymore these days.

I Buy only from USA companies.
But the product is made in china bummer, canât anything be made in USA anymore?It so far works fine, at 25lbs but I am changing the spring to 30 lbs with the springs supplied. Really quality looking item.I will update the review after the spring change and see how it progresses.

Elegance and quality
I bought the whole set. The tamper looks elegant with the nice wood. It creates a good level coffee surface to create a rich flavor coffee. Then putting it in the tamping station next to my coffee brewer gives a nice look to me kitchen counter.

This tamper is a dream! The double spring-loaded design makes it so easy to get the perfect tamp every time. The rosewood handle feels premium, and itâs perfectly weighted. It fits my Breville Barista Pro portafilter perfectly. Iâve tried other tampers, but this one is the best by far.

Coffee grains fill between shaft and tamper during tamp
I had high hopes thinking this higher end tamper would resolve the issues the factory tamper had tampering the sides of the filter. No such joy. Now when the coffee is tamped the excess on the sides rolls inside between the tamp and the tamper slide behind it.It’s pretty and looks great on my espresso box although cleaning it is annoying after each shot.

The tamper is directly connected to the handle. So there is no spring loading of the tamper pressure, which defeats the purpose of the spring loading. So really only provides a tamper depth setting! Needs a complete redesign!
