Keep hot for a long period
We bought this to put Hot Chocolate out for our delivery drivers who drop off packages during Christmas time. Overall the Thermos was delivered on time, easy to use and setup, and most importantly in 10 degree cold days kept the hot chocolate hot for 5 hours. We were happily surprised. Overall good product!! The only downside is the dispenser was knocked off the TV tray it was sitting on (about 2′ high) and it busted one of the locking tabs. The tabs ensure a good seal between the top portion and bottom portion of the dispenser. Unfortunately with one tab broke it makes this somewhat unusable and not able to pump liquid 🙁 Was great when it lasted, and the delivery drivers really liked it during the cold days!

good urn for the money
I bought this coffee maker to use for a catering event. The volume is much larger than I expected it to be. Because I needed the coffee to be hot but not burnt for a longer period of time, I chose to brew a 24 cup batch and it filled an airpot perfectly. This way I was able to have the airpot out of service and I could work on brewing another pot of coffee without waiting too long.The outside does get a little hot as it is not insulated, but it was expected. The brew parts were easy to clean, but if you are brewing multiple brews in a row be aware that there will be a good amount of steam released when you fist take the top off. I had to open the top and allow the steam to evaporate for a bit before I could handle the brew basket to empty it.We looked at a lot of coffee urns and debated which one to buy based on both good and bad reviews, and we are happy we purchased the party perk for our catering jobs this summer.

Works good to start, but quit on me in 4 months
When I got this it worked fine, but after only 4 months the heating element went out on it and it won’t keep coffee hot. I just ordered another brand hoping it will last longer. This was my second West Bend coffee maker and neither of them lasted a year.

A solid big coffee maker for events
Coffee urns are almost all the same. Some look better, some not so much. I would put the west bendâs looks on the more drab side, but the polished aluminum is ok. Itâs industrial but easily recognized by anyone in the room as the dispenser of sweet caffeine in a meeting environment.What I like about this unit is the capacity, the valve mechanism and the quality of the coffee (if you get the right coffee). The capacity was just the right amount for a brunch with 20 people, not all coffee drinkers. I ended up making a second pot for late coffee drinkers. The dispensing valve is a simple toggle, not a âcup push the valve openâ version. I think that a simple toggle valve is far superior even though it can require two hands if you hold the cup versus place it on the surface. People can get confused by the âuse the cup to push the valveâ versions, and the mechanism can collapse foam and paper cups when you press against the mechanism, very messy. Finally, I use Costco Columbiaâs coffee, preground, in this machine and it tastes great. Note that I donât like this coffee in my drip machine, only in this percolator. I think Folgers would also be good, but recommend the Colombian from Costco or alike.
