Customers say

Customers find the manual food mill grinder to be a good value for money. It’s easy for them to assemble and use, with clear instructions. They like its adjustable settings. However, some customers have reported issues with the hopper getting dented or bent. There are mixed opinions on the grind quality, build quality, and ease of cleaning.

Great for grinding masa and brewing grains.
It works very well, for both wet corn and dry grains. You need to grind and discard about 2 cups of rice to start.

    Monster mill
Very well-made mill that will serve those who are willing to put in the work to grind grain. There’s not a more difficult grain than whole or split corn to mill into corn meal or virtually flour. It’s very hard and will put any mill to the test. Disregard the comment on finish of product. This is called tinning of metal in order to prevent corrosion. Also comments regarding cleaning are hard to determine why they are challenged, but it breaks down very simply, and is easy to clean. If you don’t want to work by an electric mill, but if you’re willing to put in the time, this converted a 50 pound split corn bag into cornmeal in two hours with two arthritic shoulders, so go figure.

Good, inexpensive grinder, hard to get squeaky clean, poor packaging
Our grinder arrived with the box bursting open, holes on one end and a dent in the hopper because of poor packaging. At least it was part of a larger order so nothing got lost. It is very heavy for the tiny box it comes in.This grinder is super sturdy and seems to grind well though I could not get a super fine textured flour even after adjusting the grind and regrinding twice. Cleaning after use is straightforward, but the main body is quite heavy so someone with weak hand strength would find this difficult. Plus, flour and grain pieces get stuck in the screw divets and at the base of the grinder. Very hard to get all the flour sludge out. I will start brushing off the flour before washing which should help.Does a decent job grinding and not too hard to push. Good, inexpensive hand powered grinder.

Using This For Tortilla Dough? READ THIS.
This hand mill WILL grind nixtamal finely enough for tortillas that puff on the griddle like they’re supposed to. You’ll get much better results than from a food processor. But here are a few cautionary tips:1). When assembling the mill, screw the grinding plates as tightly together as possible. Otherwise the dough will not be fine or smooth enough. If too much play still remains between the plates, use a half-inch-diameter steel O-ring (not included) as a brace to keep the plates pressed tightly together.2). Although the mill comes with a fairly large attachable hopper, I actually believe it best not to use it for tortilla dough. Feed only a few tablespoons of rinsed nixtamalized corn into the mill at a time, dribbling in just a bit of water as you grind. You want to keep an eye on the process, and the mill’s main assembly includes a feeding area that’s the right size for this. Watch and monitor the corn as it moves down and along the large screw-shaped auger that guides the corn to the grinding plates.3). For masa that’s fine enough, you’ll probably need to grind it twice and possibly three times– again, keeping the plates tightly together, and again, feeding in just a couple spoonfuls at a time. On the second grind you’ll probably have to use a wooden spoon handle to occasionally coax the dough to the auger. A few drops of water will help, but not too much! Masa that’s wet and sticky won’t work. The process obviously requires some labor, and the final consistency will almost certainly be somewhat coarser than the silky-smooth texture you can achieve with the best masa harina. When pressed, the tortillas will have a more rustic, pebbly texture, but they will puff up on the griddle, and they will be tender. And if you’re wondering if freshly ground masa is dramatically superior to dough made from reconstituted masa harina, the answer is YES.

Not kid friendly as expected, hard to mount
Before I purchased this mill, I read a ton of reviews and they all seemed positive. I have tried over and over to make it work for me, including all sorts of tips and tricks from the internet. I have had several major issues that stop me from using it.1. I don’t have a surface to mount it to. Kitchen counter tops and tables were recommended but the overhang on my counters and table is too small to accommodate the clamp screw. I did some finagling and managed to get it clamped down but as soon as I start cranking, the whole mill Slides off.2. The hopper falls off with the slightest touch. I made sure I attached it correctly. Whether I put a small amount or fill it to the top, if I even brush against it, the hopper pops off and wheat goes everywhere.3. In the rare occasion that I get it working properly, it is either incredibly difficult to turn or I have to run the flour through 5-6 times to get it fine enough. I am a fairly strong person. This mill was recommended as a great tool that kids could help with. For me, this has not been the case. The product itself is good quality and heavy duty. I think it’s easy to care for. I just don’t think it’s as user friendly or kid friendly as other reviews suggested. To be clear, it is definitely worth the money. I do think it’s a great value and good quality if you c an make it work for your situation.

Needed a grinder for hard dry corn and this did it effortlessly in 2 minutes, on my picture this is as coarse as it goes. Could be too small if youre going for 10+kgs but it will do it.Sturdy, heavy, all cast iron, SS hopper with roughly 1.5kg capacity. The only plastic part is the cover.Shipped oiled as it should, easy to assemble, disassemble, clean. No metal fragments in finish product. This is the quality tool your great grand parents used that you can still find in working condition in antique shops.

I don’t usually write review but I am compelled to share my awful experience with this seller after purchasing the Victoria Grain Grinder. The product arrived in a deplorable state – covered in a layer of filth and oil. The teeth of the grinder were visibly damaged, clearly indicating prior use. What’s worse is that the packaging arrived half-opened, strongly suggesting a repackaged return.I’ve attached images that illustrate the appalling condition I received the product in. This is an absolute disgrace to any standard of quality control. It’s not just about a damaged item; it’s about the blatant disregard for the customer.I rated this purchase 1 star, but if I could, I would rate it 0.Consider this a warning to potential buyers – steer clear of this seller. The product quality is substandard. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere for your purchase.
