From the perspective of a novice…..
Coming from my entry level Breville Barista Express, I was unsure of what to expect. Of course, I had read all the reviews, and watched all the videos on youtube, but I had yet to fully grasp the difference that a good grinder can make. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the drinks my BBE made, I just didn’t fully appreciate how much better they could be with something as simple as a grinder upgrade.I am a grinder novice.Appearance: For me, I like things that have a “utility” aesthetic, and the Turin absolutely hits that mark. It fits in nicely with other items in my kitchen, and doesn’t really look out of place. The option of white or black is also nice as it allows you to keep theme with the rest of your kitchen.Build: This thing is solid. No joke. It feels well built, and much more heavy than you would think at first glance. When picking it up and moving it, it has serious fire extinguisher vibes. In short: it feels like it has been built like a tank, and will last a long time.Noise: Every review I read, or watched complained about the noise. So much so that I was worried that this would be the one thing that ruined the whole deal. Turns out, it’s not as bad as it’s made out to be. Noisy, sure, but it’s nothing ear-shattering. In fact, I’d say the sound you hear on review videos is actually louder than the grinder in person.Dollars-to-Donuts: 400 bucks is a pretty soft price to get into a decent flat burr grinder. Sure, there are other, more expensive, grinders out there that probably do an even better job at being consistent. However, I feel this grinder is right at the line of diminishing returns. Sure, you can absolutely get a better grinder, but the improvements would, imo, be fairly miniscule for a hefty sum of money. Unless you’re into serious profile chasing, this grinder will likely suit your needs.Cleaning: Easier than the Breville, which was pretty easy. The burrs are easily accessible, and given it’s such a low retention grinder, there is very little mess to keep up on. Granted, I am not commenting on long term use, as I have only had it about 2 weeks now. However, daily, and weekly, cleanings have been incredibly easy, and fast.Future proofing/upgrading: One of the reasons I chose this grinder size was due to the very large aftermarket burr selection. I currently am running the factory burrs, and I don’t see myself changing them any time soon, if ever. But I like that I have the option should that happen.Taste/result: If you were ever like me, and had major skepticism that a grinder could make a significant difference in the end result, then this is a great grinder to demonstrate this. To be clear: I like my BBE. I like the shots it pulls. I have made, and enjoyed, drinks from my BBE for around 2 years, so it was difficult for me to understand how something that I thought was already great, could possibly get better…. but… it does.Bottom line: 400 bucks is 400 bucks, but I think that for the money you get a very well built grinder, that does a fantastic job with espresso grinds. I would recommend this grinder to people who are like me, and know virtually nothing about grinders, but are looking to take the next step.Cheers!

    Great grinder!
so far it’s fixed a lot of the issues I’ve had with my old grinder and the coffee comes out amazing! It doesn’t sound like some commercial machine running waking up the whole house, yea its not super silent but its quick, consistent, and makes a great cup of coffee AND a great espresso. i have the standard stainless burrs, its solid, heavy , to the point and works great.for the coffee nerdsthe grounds are light, fluffy and I’ve only ever lost maybe .2-.3 grams worth in the machine with and without the bellows with and without RDT as well.

    Great coffee grinder
My husband said this has been a game changer. There is less mess. Coffee taste better with adjustments of grind with each different brands of coffee. Coffee purchases seem less because of less waste of grinds.

    So far I’m impressed
I replaced a Gen 1 Fellow Ode with this grinder and it’s been really impressive so far. A much heftier motor that can grind espresso. Even with the stock burrs the V60 cups so far have been excellent and the espresso is as good as my hand grinder with a lot less work. I’m still seasoning the burrs but they have been great so far. It’s super easy to dial in. Way less mess than the Ode. Much easier for espresso dosing. Overall a much better experience. Also recommend slow-feeding your beans just to help with espresso grind. It’s not a requirement for this grinder by any stretch but it helps.
