Sturdy, consistent grinder that feels worth every penny
I’m typically reluctant to treat myself to a “premium” product if I can get by with something less, and I’m so happy I did this time. Coming from an electric blade grinder, only somewhat convinced any burr grinder would be a major upgrade, I was pretty well shocked by the results here. I’m not enough of a coffee connoisseur to clearly describe the benefits of a consistent grind to you – there are plenty online who can do that – but I can vouch that it makes a HUGE difference towards a great cup of coffee, and this grinder is extremely consistent and adjustable to your favorite method. All functional requirements, 5 stars. The build quality is outstanding as well. It’s very solid, of course, with no “slop” between any parts or in the crank mechanism. The handle parts from the hopper as a press fit, and the bottom “collector” screws on in less than a full twist – both very well-machined, they just feel satisfying to use. The knurling on the entire body of the cylinder is great for grip, but also done in a precise and consistent way that just feels GOOD in the hand.Only because the review prompted me to rate it for travel, I’ll mention that I wish the handle folded down. It’s a really minor thing, and I know the next model up has that feature, so I can’t say it’s a failing. On the other hand, if you expect to travel with it or have a cramped counter space for your coffee kit, you might find it worth upgrading to the Pro. As it is, I’ll mention that, although the handle sticks out to the side several inches, the whole unit sits stably – it never feels like it’ll tip over if I set it down wrong, for instance.Overall, 5/5. If the handle folded down too, at this same price and capacity, I’d have to give it 6/5, so this one comes with my strong recommendation.

Great Grinder! Annoying Bag…
I bought the TIMEMORE Chestnut C3 Pro during a brief sale/discount period for $71.20. At this price it was the same as the sale on their C2 Fold model and the reviews I watched only put the C3 slightly ahead (the C2 can grind faster with the previous set of burrs so it had some trade-offs between the two). So, at that price, it seems to be fantastic! As I write this review it is at $89.99… and I think that probably makes a comparative view against other grinders a good idea. I like the grinder, but at this price point it’s worth looking at the competition just to see if you can get something equivalent slightly cheaper or something better at about the same price.Ok, so, moving away from the “value for money against competition” consideration, do I like the grinder? Yes! I am very pleased with it. Build quality is good and it feels like a very solid construction. The grind action is smooth, pleasant, and easy. It grinds quickly, too. I haven’t timed it, but I assume it takes about 20 seconds to grind 11-12 grams for my morning coffee.I really like the folding handle because it allows me to keep it as a single piece rather than removing the top and leaving the grind chamber open. HOWEVER, I find it indescribably annoying that they give you a carrying bag that is just slightly too small to fit the grinder in! I think I saw this on reviews for previous versions of TIMEMORE products and it drives me bonkers. I was so irritated that I almost gave this a 4 star review. But, then I thought about how I’d feel if I just threw the bag away… and then I realized that the grinder was still with 5 stars. I’ll just use the bag for something else, I guess. You can fit the grinder and handle in the bag if you put them in as two separate items… but then why buy the pro model at all? Just get the cheaper non-folding version. In regards to ground coffee consistency and quality… well… I’m just really getting into specialty coffee so I’m no expert. It seems to do a great job, though, and all the reviews I watched by knowledgeable people suggest it’s really good. So, overall, I’m very happy with my purchase and think it’s great. They could perfect with just a smidgen more attention to detail, but I’ve gotten over it. I think I got a good deal at $71, but I’d probably recommend it at higher prices as well. I feel that $90 may be pushing it… but prices on competition/alternatives fluctuate, so I would just suggest doing a little research and considering for yourself if that’s too much for you!

Most amazing surprise-LOVE IT!
I resisted a hand grinder for years because it just seemed like too much work. But then…I wanted something for travel so I got this one. OMG. I love it. What I thought was going to be difficult is easy as can be. It’s quiet. It’s (relatively) quick. And it is way easier to set different grinds than it is on my super-duper $400 Italian-made electric grinder! That THIS GRINDER IS QUIET is particularly important to me first thing in the morning. The Chestnut satisfies that in spades. I may be the only one highly noise-sensitive, but I doubt it. I find myself reaching for this in the morning at home over my loud, very expensive Italian electric grinder.THE GRIP IS FANTASTIC. The regular (non-spiked) version of this grinder is best. It’s softly “sanded” for a good grip where the more spiky one hurts my hands. The normal one has a surface that has great grip as far as I’m concerned. I have small hands and the SIZE of the cylinder is comfortable for my grasp as well.I personally like to BALANCE THINGS and this grinder gives me the easy ability to hold in my left hand and grind with the right hand then to switch and hold in my right hand and grind with my left hand. I realize this is a very personal thing, but for someone who has had both a broken wrist on one side and a broken thumb on the other size, this kind of flexibility is wonderful. I try to use my grinding now as ongoing therapy. But if you develop (or have) arthritis, this grinder accommodates. And if you are wondering, IT IS EASY TO GRIND WITH THE CHESTNUT. I am in my 70s and have had hand and finger injuries in the past. So if I find it easy, put that in perspective.

I have a Eureka Mignon Specialita electric grinder and wanted one for my AeroPress which I travel with rather than having to keep dialling in my grinder at home to go from expresso to pour over coarseness of beans, so I thought I would buy one of these. When I travel, I always try to find a local speciality coffee shop and get new beans still looking for the subscription “house blend” think I am closer or a speciality limited run roast. This is a well-made piece of kit with good build quality and nice little touches, how to dial in on the grinder head, how to open the handle and feels great in the hand nice weight and grip, that I think will give me many happy years of use. It is easy to grind 14g of beans weight (all about repeatable consistency weigh your beans) for my AeroPress, it will take as much as 20g max of coffee in one grinding, and takes about 20-30 seconds on 10 clicks from 0 point. This gives good even grounds without any âbouldersâ seen or felt, and gives a full slightly acidic tasting brew, which of course is also down to the coffee. There is obviously some âstatic clingâ of light grounds/bean skins on the inside of the grinder as you are generating static as you grind, a quick thump on the top with a flat hand to create a bit of a vacuum seal and will drive the extra bits through the grinder to the collection pot at the bottom. It comes with a nice soft cleaning brush and two compartment bag to protect scratching the body from top/handle section when it is in the bag for travel. It is easy to take apart/put back together all the way to an empty tube for cleaning. When you do take it apart it can only go back in one way due to the design which sort of makes it idiot proof. This is a time to see what you pay for, the Timemore made conical burr inside tearing the beans to sheards, is heavy and well machined with good cuts, that will grind against the static burr of the grind chamber (I have the new SC2 burr in mine which cuts the bean into smaller pieces to go through the grinder chamber for a finer grind size) to give consistently sized grinds. From the above I think you can determine I am very happy with the product and have already recommended it to other coffee friends who are just getting into coffee so they can save money to get the other bits. But a quick trip to a charity shop for a French press/cafetiere, a nice bag of fresh coffee beans, spend a little on a good quality hand grinder (says will go down to expresso (it does) if that is your way!) is all you need for a great cup of Java to get you started for the day ahead and your journey into good coffee. Once you grind your own good quality fresh (look for roast date if not present or in years look elsewhere or get some of the internet) beans at home you wonât look back good luck.See below for a quick guide to amount of clicks from 0 (handle does not turn as conical burr is to tight to the outside of the grind chamber wall to what ever you want!)Timemore C3 Grind Setting (2022) S2C burrMeasurement: ClicksFrench Press 16Pour Over 13-15AeroPress 11-15Moka Pot 9-12Espresso 7-9
