Bought this for loose leaf tea, as an alternative to the stainless steel mesh ones that tend to get stained regardless of the name. It’s great. Only one leaf managed to get through the tiny slits. Works well even in the glass mug (see photos of lemongrass and ginger tea). Lovely to watch the tea as it brews and the lid keeps the heat in as well as being useful as a saucer. Only one caveat: if you lift the infuser and decide to put it back in the mug, it will displace the liquid and it’ll flow over the top.

I recently began intermittent fasting and find that a nice cup of loose-leaf herbal tea is a good way to help me get to lunchtime. A popular meta-review site recommended a tea infuser/strainer for use with a standard mug and it works well, except that it has plastic supports and no matter how free it is of BPA and other stuff, I don’t think it’s a good idea to be drinking a beverage which was made with boiling water poured over plastic and left to sit for 10 minutes. My next stop was a completely metal infuser/strainer and I found one that was decent, however, I find that I’m really sensitive to metallic tastes and even though I believe it’s made of stainless steel, I can still taste something “off” about the tea I make with it.Years ago, my spouse and I had a glass teakettle with a glass infuser. I remembered that the glass between two of the slits had broken so it didn’t really steep tea. But we keep it because it looks pretty.Anyway, I found a couple of “test-tube”-style glass infusers and the complaints were about them being hard to clean (which makes sense for something 3/4″ in diameter and at the bottom of a tube), so I passed on those. When I found this glass infuser with a lid (which is really important because I want a place to set my dripping infuser once the tea has finished steeping), I knew I had to give it a shot.It was packaged very securely and did not have any damage.I washed it by hand (although I can see throwing it in the dishwasher if I keep it away from other heavy stuff like coffee mugs) and the lid was a little hard to get clean to because of the lip, but really there shouldn’t be much debris that collects on it.I made my first cup of tea with it and it was good, as expected, and no weird metallic taste (again, as expected). The only thing I am knocking one star off for is that I can see a few tiny tea leaves (or parts thereof) stuck in the slits. A soapy dishwashing sponge was insufficient to dislodge them, so I will likely need to use some sort of baby-bottle brush or something. I realize that if the manufacturer made the slits large enough so that they didn’t trap the leaves, then the leaves would enter the beverage. And if they made them smaller, then the tea wouldn’t steep properly. So I appreciate the dilemma they faced. I just think including a small brush would have helped with that. (Also, when filling the infuser with water, it drains into the mug very slowly, so I needed to give it more time while pouring. Not a big problem, just required me to pour more slowly than I had gotten used to with the metal infusers.)

After quite a bit of research I found this particular infuser to replace a broken infuser. This TeaBloom infuser is more “universal” in terms of fitting on different types of cups, and even teapots, with its wider top lip and graduated design. (Even so, I’d measure the container(s) you’d like to use it with, to get an idea of whether it will work for you.)Turns out that this infuser is quite an improvement over the original infuser I had, and fits perfectly on my unbroken borosilicate teacup—thanks to the wide lip design. The glass is thicker, sturdier and safe, and also made of high quality borosilicate glass—a distinction you will not find on all glass tea infusers sold on Amazon.I also appreciate the, thick, multifunctional lid that doubles as a drip tray. This infuser is an upgrade and fairly priced.

Love the concept of glass however, the tea leaks into the mug.

You don’t NEED an expensive electric mug to enjoy this product, but it helps. Fits a standard mug perfectly and gives loose-leaf tea plenty of room to bloom. Only annoying part is it’ll adhere to its own lid, if you use its lid as a coaster for the main infuser after steeping; the hot water kind of suckers it to itself with a bit of glass-on-glass vacuum/negative pressure. It’s fine once it’s dried all the way, though.Edit: Broke on the second stern whack. I smacked it against a ceramic surface while shaking it out, and it survived, but winging its rim with the edge of a mug I was setting down proved too much for it. Back to buy one again; I’ll be more careful this time, but I’m using it twice a day. That’s simply a lot of handling for a fragile item… so, this is the correct price point :p

This is the best overall method I’ve found to brew tea using loose leaf tea. My one fear is how easily it could be broken, but that’s the price to pay for not using plastic (which, when food it contains is heated, apparently introduces particles of plastic into the food that are then ingested) or metal (which to me affects the taste of the tea). Tea leaves can escape the little vents and get into the tea, but in my experience very few do (and so what if they do?). It fits down in a teapot or a mug, either of which can be microwaved (something you can’t do with a metal tea holder), or water can be heated and poured directly onto the tea leaves. Unlike metal or plastic tea holders, the water can easily get to all the tea leaves, maximizing the flavor and strength of the resulting tea. I very much like this, and it produces a nice cup or pot of tea. To tea lovers, I highly recommend this product.

Fragile and broke the first week when washing it.For a couple of dollars more I replaced it with one that came with a mug.
