Gorgeous, great coffee, a bit quirky, LOVE my SMEG!!
Let me just tell you, I LOVE the SMEG. Yes it’s expensive, yes it’s a bit fussy, but as an avid coffee fan, I love it because it makes the best and hottest cup of drip coffee I’ve ever had at home.I can use the exact same kind of ground coffee in 3 different drip machines and the taste out of the SMEG is by far superior. It takes awhile to brew a pot (8-10 min) but it is worth the wait!!Pros: superior flavor/quality of brew, gorgeous on my counter. These two pros far outweigh the consCons:-not intuitive to operate, read the manual! Some commands (like setting auto brew) require hitting two buttons at once-Wants me to run a lengthy water descaling cycle every couple weeks—I’ve started to ignore this but I have to look at a red flashing light…-handle on pot does not feel very solid. I’m worried it could break off with a heavy pot of coffee…-keep warm plate only stays on an hour. I need at least two hours, so I end up powering off and back on to reset the timer. Not a deal breaker but annoying. And despite the cons, I love my SMEG and would recommend it. Hopefully they can address a few of these items in a subsequent model. Buy it and enjoy!

    WASTE OF MONEY!
I wanted a pink coffee maker, but couldn’t find one. I came across this adorable retro pink Smeg coffee maker sold for the same price on many different sites. It was way out of my budget, $230-$270. However, I couldn’t find any other affordable brand in the color I wanted, so after months of debate, I finally purchased this one on Amazon. Such a bad decision! It’s not intuitive to use. The buttons are pointless. There’s one for “aroma”, seriously??!! Another useless button for brewing half a pot. That’s ridiculous since you can just make half a pot. You don’t need a button for that! As if someone would make a full pot but press a button so only half is made and the coffee grounds sit there already strained until you decide to make the other half??? The lid doesn’t open back far enough to poor all the water out of the pot. Water is spilled every time! It only makes 10 cups which I knew when buying, but figured it wouldn’t make a difference. It does. I often make two pots to accommodate three people in the house. Unless you truly only pour 6oz cups. One pot fills 2-3 regular mugs. No refills. The lid to the coffee pot isn’t attached which is a small but tedious task to constantly remove it and put it back on. It doesn’t stay warm very long at all. Turns off in less than an hour. You have to wait until the entire pot is finished brewing. No pulling the pot out to grab a cup of coffee before it’s finished or you risk it pouring out. No pause. It is honestly one of the worst coffee makes I have ever owned. For the cost, I expected so much more. The manufacturers and designers didn’t care about function, they wasted all their energy on aesthetics. It’s a cute little pink R2D2 cousin on my countertop, but it’s worthless! I’m buying a new maker that’s certainly not as cute but $200 cheaper and actually functions with ease. Please don’t waste your money. Shame on Smeg for selling a piece of trash.

The luxury car of coffee makers
So we buy nice cars knowing that they are expensive…yet they still just take us from place to place, but in style. The SMEG is like a luxury car. It reminds me of when I had the 50th anniversary Camaro and then traded it in for an Equinox. Now I still don’t regret the decision because my insurance was going up and it was Covid times lol…but I am keeping the SMEG because it really is luxurious. I bought a cheaper coffee maker to compare, and SMEG really does make better coffee. It has its faults…it’s not searing hot like I prefer, but I did taste test comparisons and the brew really is richer. I love the design and the classiness of it, and setting the timer is really simple. It makes me happy just looking at it. Plus the color is cheerful and there are many color options. Overall I think it’s a lovely product.

    Coffee maker
I get a lot of compliments on this coffee maker. It makes good hot coffee but it’s hard putting the water into the machine without spilling it all over. Don’t like that part of the design of this. Overall it makes good hot coffee. Easy to clean. Shuts off on its own. A little pricy tho. But I love it!

    Good coffee, but not hot
UPDATE: after a few uses, the carafe has completely cracked. It looked and feels cheap, but I didn’t expect it to break that quickly. Horrible quality for the high price of the coffee maker. It’s a quality coffee maker. Very aesthetic looking on the counter and makes a great cup of coffee. Biggest complaint, like most, it’s just not hot enough. Once you add some creamer to the coffee, you have to microwave it in order for it to be hot.
