Worth every penny for the results.
So I will confess that I made two mistakes when brewing this. My first mistake was using a 900-watt hot plate to boil the water over my 1200 watt induction burner, and the second was me pitching the yeast while the wort was too hot. So naturally, I worried that I somehow mucked up the recipe. But… It didn’t. I waited for months, back aging some of the bottles for this review as well. I did not add, or attempt to enhance this recipe, so this will be a full pure review of it.Let’s start with the instructions. Very clear and concise. I am including the fact that the brew took way longer than three hours. But this is NOT because of Brewer’s Best, as I made the mistake of using a 900-watt hot plate. I am simply adding it so any potential newbies like myself can learn from it, and NOT do what I did! XD. That being said. If you follow the instructions it will turn out fantastic. Now we go onto the ferment. I did some research which made me worry about the English Ale Yeast included in the kit being pitched in too hot of a wort. But to my pleasure, it was absolutely fine. The ferment started up later in the evening and rolled on for about 8 days. Bottling was simple, and 7 days later I cracked one open after conditioning in the fridge. Which brings us to the most important part IMO: FLAVOR!It is a solid Porter! Roasty aromas, smooth chocolatey finish, and the Hops… Oddly enough, before I got into these partial kits I was not a real fan of strong Hop flavors and aromas. IPA is my least favorite, but I am now absolutely certain that’s because I like super fresh hops. They added complexity and bitterness that complemented the finish with absolute perfection. Back aging for a handful of months did not disappoint either. It was still great, still smooth. I absolutely plan to buy this again, after I purchase a Stout kit from them.If you’re newer to brewing, or just looking for a simple kit that requires no development (Those meat-and-potatoes moments,) then this kit is absolutely for you.

Love brewers best
My dad and I have a hobby brewing our own beer. We started with brewers best and gave us the foundation to make our own craft beer recipes. Every now and again we will buy from brewers best just because the beer is delicious. Never had a kit that didn’t taste great.

Great Price! No Issues!
A great complete kit for a low price. Wish all kits would get down to this price point. When kits get to $45-$50 anyone can get 2 cases of craft beer at any grocery store for that amount. Ok, there is fun in making your own, just saying this $32.00 kit makes a hobby do-able for the Average Joe in this economy.

Nice craft beer
Nice craft beer, easy to brew. Only wonder is the box had a bag of hops that was not on the recipe. Not sure if it is an equal substitute. I have brewed this before and the ingredients matched the recipe. It may be a pleasant surprise. I have one more week of carbonation and I’m going to test drive one..

Solid Porter with no frills
This is great deal for a simple no nonsense porter. This is a relatively forgiving style and easier drinking recipie than some of brewers best stouts. It has a relatively light refreshing mouthfeel with a robust malt/dark grain taste that follows through to an extended finish. I normally buy these kits and then make some modifications such as adding coffee beans in secondary, chocolate nibs ect but when we brewed this it smelled so good we just kegged it up and started drinking it. Bonus with some of these darker kits save the grains and make cookies or dog treats from the spent grains. All around an excellent kit and for the price on amazon a fine place to start before you get bit by the all grain bug.

A good porter.
Heads up, I shorted the water in this recipe by about 2 gallons to increase the abv. It will take much longer than one week if you do this. After a week it had a wine flavor that cleared up three days after and became a nice tasty porter. The wort also tasted like a nice cup of coffee before it went into fermentation. I did make a small mistake of not fully straining the hops as I poured the wort into the fermenter, but it doesn’t seem to have negatively impacted the beer.
