Mellow Brew, But Alas, No Chocolate
These beans are moderately tasty / palatable. I really like that they are very low acidity; I tend to like coffee with mocha or chocolate notes, and stay away from fruity/bright coffees.The impact of the Tremella mushroom is modest at best, imparting a very very slight umami mouthfeel. I cannot say that the coffee has much in the way of mocha chocolate notes, however, which is a disappointment.The dosage I used for a drip brew is 65 g of beans for 50 ounces of water, a bit higher than my normal ratio. As a result, the coffee strength was fairly strong, but still no astringency or bitterness in the brew.When I ordered these beans I didn’t realize they were whole bean – thought I was getting ground coffee. The beans themselves are of medium size and were roasted fairly medium roast. The color of the grinds was also medium (sometimes the color of the grinds is different than what you see in the whole bean, but not this time). I tend to prefer medium or dark medium roast and these beans meet that preference.Bottom line, these beans produce a mellow, earthy brew, no fruit, but no mocha, chocolate, or nuts, either. I think these would work best for drip or pour-over, not for french press or espresso. I didn’t try aeropress or immersion methods such as vacuum brew – I suspect these bean may work pretty well for those methods.

Good quality in light/medium flavor profile
Mostly I drink black coffee ground fresh daily from dark roast whole beans, e.g., French roast, Italian roast, espresso roast, that sort of thing. I like it dark, bitter, and really full flavored.This coffee is not that. For my tastes, it would be ‘2.5 stars,’ but that’s not what they were going for and it’s not fair to the product. ‘5 star’ rating because I think this is a quality product that achieves what the intent was. Which is an easy-going, light/medium coffee with a pleasant, very mellow flavor, plus an intriguing hint of “something more.”The mushroom thing, frankly, not sure I get it. But there is a hint of earthiness in a freshly brewed cup, and perhaps that’s how it manifests. Keeping in mind I am not a “super taster;” maybe someone with a more sensitive palate would notice more. In any event, it did not smell or taste mushroomy to me.Taste wise, it’s got the aforementioned hint of earthiness, with a pleasant, light/medium coffee flavor (more light than medium). Low acid, low bitter, medium finish. Also a pleasant hint of creaminess.Overall, not my cup of tea (ha!), but a nice product if you’re looking for a light/mellow coffee.

This Is A Good Cup Of Coffee
I’ll start by saying that I’m no expert on coffee, but I know what I like. I’ve been drinking various brands of mushroom coffee for awhile now but they’ve all been the instant ground varieties, not whole bean. All of those taste like the instant coffees they are (think: Sanka) and I do like them, but I was curious about this brewed variety from RÃ¥ Hygge.Simply put, this is a good cup of coffee. It smells amazing in the bag and while it’s brewing, too. In layman’s terms and without all the fancy shmancy coffee lingo, it’s kind of similar to Maxwell House original roast but a lot richer and tastier. It doesn’t taste mushroomy or earthy to me. Great black or with a little cream and sugar. It didn’t upset my stomach or give me jitters at all. I do recommend this 100%
