I didn’t notice the glass was discolored until after I had put my starter in and thought it was growing black mold! Thank god I didn’t dump it out and investigated further. This jar has been thoroughly cleaned at least 3 times. The glass just has black color in it. Other than that the jar allows plenty of growing room for my starter.

I just started to try sourdough bread and wanted to start with a kit. I chose this one because of the size and width of the jar. It comes with everything you need including a guide chart with instructions. This jar is easy to clean and wide enough to get your hand inside for easier scrubbing.

The Jar is well made (5mm think glass?) and it’s well packaged for shipping. I love the visual reference of my starter and seeing the growth. I’ll get more of these jars for myself and friends/family if the opportunity arises.I have to say that the cost of shipping to New Zealand (only one option) is somewhat of a down side. It’s the same price as the Jar. While it arrived in quick time – it would be awesome if Amazon could find a better/more cost effective freight option. I could buy another 5 or 6 Jars in on order if the freight was more reasonable.

This is a great size to learn how to do a sourdough starter. Biggest disappointment was that the cap doesn’t fit the jar at all! Had to make do with something else.
