An ALMOST perfect coffee maker for my off grid homeâ¦.
This just arrived yesterday and I couldnât wait to get up this morning and make myself a cup of coffee with it. I spend my summers living in an off grid home in a remote area of northern Michigan. I absolutely love the isolation and the quiet, but coffee is something I just cannot do without. I have percolators that go over top of a fire or gas stove, but they always leave so many grounds in the coffee cup that I donât like to use them. I will often use a generator just to make my coffee in the morning. I hate doing that, but it was the best option I had up until now. This Hemli camp set coffee maker is absolutely perfect for me! I have a propane gas stove that I use for cooking or heating water. Itâs the ideal way for making coffee with this set. It takes about 3 minutes to boil the water and then an additional five minutes to make a cup of coffee with this. There were absolutely zero coffee grounds in my cup when it was finished and the cleanup is relatively simple and easy. It worked great on my propane stove top, but would also work great over an open fire. All you need is a separate kettle or pot to boil your water in. This only makes a 12 ounce cup of coffee, which is about half of what I like to drink in the morning so if I could change anything, that would be the only thing. Iâm not marking it down at all for that because I knew the size of it when I ordered it. It also does not make the coffee as strong as a regular brew electric coffee maker does, so you have to add more grounds than what you would use in a normal coffee maker. Again, itâs just a downfall of being off grid and not something I would mark it down for, but you should know that before you order this.Aside from a plastic lid and a few plastic fittings, this is a good, solid built, steel mug and maker. The lid fits perfectly and does not leak at all. It will stand up nicely in a backpack on a trip and is a decent and fair price for what you get. If you live off grid, like to camp or hike, this is a great option for you.A few friends of mine and I are talking about taking a camping trip this summer where a plane drops us off on a remote island and we spend a week out there living in a remote wilderness with only what we can pack in. This will be a great addition to our trip and Iâm sure everyone will be glad that I bring this with me.

Good product that could be a GREAT product with some minor updates
I was really excited for this camping pourover set but there is just small but important design flaw that keeps it from being a 5-star product in my eyes. The downfall described below might not be a big deal for everyone, but it may matter if you often have a car packed full of gear. The pros:- The included vacuum-insulated mug is a perfect size and is a really nice quality- The micro-perforated stainless filter is great quality and removable for easy cleaning- The kit looks nice and seems it will last (IF stored properly, more on this below)- Works perfectly for it’s intended purpose, makes a great cup of coffee, and is easy to cleanThe con:- Huge missed opportunity making this kit somehow able to be stored in a safe and compact manner. The funnel and mug really should have a way to stack within each other so you can have all components of the kit conveniently stowed away for travel. This doesn’t sound like a huge deal but when this gets shoved into a storage tote packed with tons of other camping gear, I know that the funnel will inevitably get bent at some point since it is big and while it has a nice scratch-resistant surface, it just isn’t going to hold up very well to being crushed in a car full of camping gear. Similar items such as the aeropress can have all components of the kit stored within the included cup- this is super helpful for keeping everything together and taking up as little space as possible. I really think this is a missed opportunity that would make this a top notch product.

Better cup of joe than my French Press.
So TLDR, this is a very well made and fantastic way to make a single cup of coffee if you are out camping or you are at home but don’t want to deal with a bunch of stuff. Highly recommended.I did not know what to expect when I got this. But whatever it was, I was blown away. The cup was very heavy and well made and just nice to hold. I will be using it as a daily cup beyond taking it camping. The lid is actually a nice piece of kit. I have not needed it yet but I did test it with some water and it held like a champ when shaken and turned upside down. The filter system works great. I was using regular drip coffee grind and I did not have to wait a long time for my coffee. It drained fairly quickly but not so much I ended up with coffee grounds in my cup. And the flavor was perfect. I am not exactly a careful coffee maker… I usually shoot from the hip on measurements. But that worked out really well for me in this case. Honestly, one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had.I really loved just about everything going on with the Hemli. But I feel like I need to make some points or interest. For one… I would never take this backpacking. Its big and heavy and does not combine or get smaller at all. So it would be a pack queen for sure. I also would not try and make coffee on anything less than a mostly or fully flat surface. While the base is wide there is not a stand or anything to keep things from tipping or spilling. As well, the filter part is just sitting on top of the cup. There is nothing attaching the one to the other, like pegs or clips and so you could lose it if you try to make coffee on a slope.None of that should stop you if you want to make coffee in a campground or at home or really anywhere weight and slope are no issue. I am absolutely in love with mine and I can’t wait to bring i9t out next time we are tenting and I wake up first to make the fire.
