Total disappointment
Recently I bought this item to match the well made Peugeot pepper mill that I have enjoyed using for many years. What a disappointment! I tried various kinds of coarse salt in it. Most of them ran straight through and poured out the bottom. I had to use the coarsest salt to prevent this. Even then, I found the coarse/fine adjustment went swiftly from one extreme to another: either no salt came out, or salt escaped freely when the handle was not turned. In between there was a narrow range of usable adjustment. After I had used the salt mill for a few months it completely stopped working. I took it apart to see what was wrong, and was shocked to see the grinding mechanism. In place of the robust components I’d expect in a quality product, I found two flimsy cones of sheet metal, stamped with shallow indentations that had already worn completely smooth. Not to put too fine a point on it, this is a total piece of crap.

This grinder is really nice. It looks great and feels great, I have the pepper grinder as well and love the pepper grinder. My only complaint is that the grinder occasionally squeaks.

The original Salt n Peppa
Traditional but nothing beats a Peugeot grinding mechanism…nothing! Imitations are just that: Peugeot or nothing! I paired this light maple Salt mill with a dark brown Peugeot for my pepper…really fabulous to be able to grab the lighter colored wood when I am in mid cook-a-rama and give a grind, knowing it’s the salt!!!

thought it would be better
I got the salt grinder, thinking it would be just as good as the pepper grinder. You have to always re adjust the grinder setting and it never seems to work right..either you have big chunks of salt or no saltits as if the mechanism to grind the salt is not to good .

I would not recommend this product
I have the Peugeot pepper grinder which I really like, and figured this would be great as well. I was wrong and regret not reading the reviews first before ordering. The salt (even the recommended size) just falls out of the bottom. There is no fine adjustment for the the coarseness…I believe the instructions say to do that by screwing the top more or less tightly but that’s impractical. Because how much salt you put in a meal can be a real make or break thing…I ended up splurging and getting the Cole and Mason competing product. It’s a bit more expensive but it’s fantastic, well reviewed, and worth every penny!

Je voulais absolument acheter un moulin à sel de la marque Peugeot. Il est classe, il fonctionne très bien, c’est de la superbe qualité. Les finitions sont parfaites. J’en ai pris un de cette taille (moyenne), parfait pour la contenance.
