As with just about any other OXO product, this coffee grinder is over-designed, and is a joy to use.The one-piece handle rotates out into place, and still feels solid when grinding coffee beans, but is very compact when the handle is retracted; although, it is a bit taller than other manual grinders because the hopper & grinds receptacle are larger than most. The bean hopper will hold up to 40g of coffee beans; so, less refilling is involved.Grinding is fairly easy with the steel burrs, but you shouldn’t wash this grinder, even though most of it is made of plastic, and instead should only brush loose grounds away. The main plastic shell could use a more textured finish for a better grip when grinding, but it’s still easy enough to turn the handle, even when having set the dial to its finest setting. The lowest (Zero) setting gets very close to being powder, WITHOUT actually grinding the burrs together and damaging them (like you are able to do with many other brands of coffee grinders!). That is a BAD thing to let happen.Unfortunately, because there’s a lot of plastic involved, the grounds (especially very fine grounds) will tend to stick everywhere due to static electricity, if you’re not careful.I understand that some people use a fine mist of water spritzed on coffee beans, before placing them in a grinder’s hopper, to cut down on the problem. I’ll try that if the static situation gets too out of control.Otherwise, this is another great product from a top-notch company!

I grind my coffee beans every morning and I have a counter-top, electric grinder for daily use. Typically, I use it for the coffee that goes in my drip machine. Some days, however, I like to make coffee in my French press and you need a much coarser grind for that. So on those days, I use my Oxo grinder as I can grind just what I need and pour it directly into the press. It does a nice job of adjusting for the coarser grounds and the long handle makes the grinding easy. Yes, there is static electricity that has some of the grounds clinging to the sides but I’ve had that happen with every kind of grinder I’ve ever had no matter what it’s made of. I don’t worry about cleaning it too often as I don’t think it need to be that clean. It’s just ground coffee beans and coffee oils and they don’t interfere with the operation of the grinder or the flavor of the coffee. It’s also great for traveling if you are a real coffee snob like I am!! I recommend this!

Easy to use and well worth the cost. Needs a little brush to do it right though! I can’t believe they did not think of that!

I just got this right out of the box and started experimenting with grinds, it does an outstanding job and is a perfect size for traveling too. I love it so far and I can’t wait to try it out camping.

This might be the first OXO product I am not super happy with. Normally, they have nice well thought out designs and made of good quality materials. This one just doesn’t hit that mark. The enclosed directions gave good information about dissembling the item for cleaning and how to put it back together. Also a chart for what grind setting you should have it at, depending on what kind of brew you will be using the grounds for. There is a grinding wheel under the top attachment, just turn the knob to the size grounds you desire. Be prepared, if you want fine grounds for an espresso it will take a LONG amount of time to grind enough for one cup. The issue with the (lack of) directions for how much to grind per cup is annoying. There is a 20g marker on the side of the grinder that we just kind of had to assume was for a one cup measurement. I guess just playing around with the amounts will ultimately give you the correct cup of coffee. This does have a nice compact design. The handle slides in for storage, so it doesn’t take up much room in your cabinet. For just brewing one or two cups of coffee/espresso this would make a nice unit. Especially for travel or camping. The main negatives about this item are: it is very time consuming to grind even the smallest amount and it just doesn’t feel quality. The area where the whole beans section and the grounds section fit together does not feel solid. It seems to flex while grinding, I felt the need to support that section while grinding. Kind of feels like it could snap at some point.Overall, just no. The amount of effort, time and the MESS it made.. just weren’t worth the effort. Could’ve just run out to a local coffee joint and back home in the same amount of time! 😆
