    Delicious, Flavor Rich Mocha Java!
Some of the reviews here on Amazon sort of puzzled me. There were complaints about burnt taste of the coffee and what seemed like general dissatisfaction. My take on the Mocha Java is that it does have a slight smoky taste, but that’s how a number of coffee types are that I’ve experienced over the years as a regular drinker. That’s not always a negative, but depending on one’s taste expectations, I suppose it can be.From my angle with this particular Mocha Java, I give this 2 thumbs up. My wife and I both found it to be rich, it has good body and yes, a little smoky edge without being over the top. I will be back for some of the other blends this company offers. I’m pretty impressed with the quality and taste of this Mocha Java, and recommend anyone serious about their coffee give it a full, open minded trial.

    Awesome Coffee!
I am pretty particular with my coffee. I like a coffee that is pleasing to drink black, but also works with some creamer. Also, I’m not a fan of the coffees that have “fruity” notes. The mocha-java blend did not disappoint. Drinking it black this coffee had a smooth non-bitter finish. It also worked well with our favorite creamer. It’s hard to pick out the prevalent note from carmel, toffee, and vanilla, which i prefer. Particularly the vanilla can be overpowering in some coffees and here is complimentary to the other flavors. The mix works well overall, is very pleasing, and is more to the smoky and smooth finish that I like. I didn’t get any burnt taste that others have mentioned. Overall this is a coffee that I’ll be adding to my regular rotation. Well done Orinoco!!

    Great flavor profile!
It’s a medium light roast that brews very nicely in a French press but also works great in an espresso machine. I really like the slightly fruity flavors in combination with a more traditional tasting base. The price is phenomenal and you can tell they roast fresh. I only wish they would disclose information about the precise origin of their coffee beans.

    Brilliant packaging, unexpected smoky/charcoal flavor
When it comes to trying a new coffee, I like to allow a few brews before coming to any decision as to its merits or shortcomings, and especially if I’m writing a review. But before I even ground the beans, I was impressed with the beautiful and practical packaging. Aside from its vibrant graphics, I was very appreciative of the easy pull-tab hidden a bit discreetly on the upper left edge, which made for easy initial opening of the package. I wish more coffee packages used the same pull-tab opener and inner press-and-seal closure instead of those fiddly strips meant to secure a folded-over top. The inner seal makes it easy to securely close the package to maintain freshness. Now to the flavor: after grinding the beans with a burr grinder for pour-over/filter brewing, a lovely scent permeated the house. But when actually brewing, there wasn’t much of a scent. When finished brewing and after the first cup, the predominant flavor was smoke and charcoal. It didn’t have the typical round, mellow body of other mocha java blends, and we couldn’t discern any caramel-toffee-vanilla flavors at all. The beans didn’t appear to be burnt, so the smoky-charcoal flavor was a surprise. Another family member drinks her coffee with both half & half and sugar, and she said that even those additions didn’t help make the coffee any less bitter or charcoal-tasting.We’ll see if future brewings of this coffee will change our minds, and with 2.5 pounds of coffee, there will be plenty of opportunities to give it a chance to win us over. For now, it’s a bit of a disappointment (though a good value for organic, fair trade coffee if you like your coffee thin-bodied and tasting of charcoal, and with no other typical mocha java notes ).One-week update: We’ve now brewed this coffee several times. We’re always careful to not over-grind the beans so they don’t get bitter, and we use filtered water at the recommended 195-205 degree temp range. But this coffee still tastes too much of smoke, and the mouthfeel is thin and bitter — not the mellow, rounded flavors expected from a mocha java blend. So despite the lovely packaging and the organic/fair trade beans, I’m going to try to find some other coffee beans with a more mellow, rounded flavor to mix with these bitter, charcoal-y beans. We expected and wanted to enjoy this coffee, and it seems the company invests a lot of care in their products, so I feel bad (and apparently, in the minority) to write a not-so-flattering review.

    Great Coffee
Coffee is very good. It is a very smooth, medium roast that is not overly caffeinated. We brew it on the stronger side and its great.
