Olde Thompson 5.5″ Bavaria Adjustable Pepper Mill

Great, sturdy, easy to clean and use/6 month later 2 out of 7 broke.
I tried a bunch of different grinders of similar construction from other companies for my salt, pepper, cumin seeds and other spices. All of them either broke or gave me a carpatonal syndrome.This mill is great with all my spices. It is easy to fill, easy to grind. Glass casing doesn’t crack like plastic. Stainless steel grinding mechanism works perfectly.*****This is written 6 month later*******2 out of 7 grinders I bought – broke. The plastic where the grinding mechanism is attached snapped and now it just rotates freely, not able to produce friction, hence no grinding.I kept 5 star rating because I still love the grinders and will buy more. The salt grinders are all still intact. Another 2 pepper grinders broke. They break inside where the plastic meets the grinding mechanism. I use them for peppers and other spices (cumin, coriander).

Pepper perfect for the picky
We like our ground pepper! This one has an easy adjustment for coarse or fine grind, so it transitions well from person to person around our large family. No pepper fallout because you set it “upside down” by design. This might irritate you if you want your recently ground pepper to stay strictly on the bottom, but it hasn’t bothered us. Easy to use and solid construction. After a few months of usage, it still feels like it will last a long while.TWO YEARS LATER: We used this item frequently for the majority of our meals and we are a large family (so it has gotten a lot of use). Most of this pepper mill is either metal or glass, so it won’t break or wear out, but finally the thick plastic frame broke that centers the bolt that holds the nut that allows you to adjust for coarseness. We nearly bought a new one, but instead decided to epoxy the frame crack and the bolt into the frame. With that, it is still working like it did when it was new.

Great grinder.
I love these! Stylish, nicely made and does the job. So glad the container is actually glass and not the plastic resin that Olde Thompson often uses on their products. My only real beef with it is it doesn’t grind the pepper course enough for me and course grinds do take a bit of effort. Also the quantity it produces is limited. I guess by now you can tell I’m a pepper freak! They look great on the table though and I do have a much more expensive pepper grinder I use for the serious pepper work! These work just fine for most people. The only other issue is you have to instruct new guests to your table how to use them. Most people are initially confused by the cap and upside down nature of it.

Great grinders!
These are my favorite pepper grinders, also have matching salt grinders, much neater than having the grinder on the bottom, which deposits little piles of salt or pepper whenever you put it down! Also like having a glass base so I know when to refill them. The grinders can be adjusted from coarse to very fine grind easily, and the tops keep the grinders clean. Although they have proved to be pretty sturdy, had to replace one that was dropped enroute from the lakefront back to the kitchen on a stone walkway!

Love this item!! Use it every day!!
