I recently dove into the art of the espresso world and luckily I had a friend helping me steer. I went with Normcore for all of my products and i couldnât be happier with the purchases. They make a quality built product that seems like itâs going to last. This tamping station was the last purchase I made because my wife was getting made at me for banging the portafilter on the counter. The station is very sleek and well built but is very limited on what it carries. The only downside I saw to this was it didnât fit my 54mm funnel used to prevent beans from falling out the portafilter when tamping. I place the funnel on one of the tamping tool placements and as long as thereâs no earthquake I should be alright.Remember, this is made of wood so itâs not a simple âthrow it in the sinkâ clean. You have to carefully wash it to prevent the wood from getting damaged. I use a small countertop vacuum to clean out all excess grounds and a damp towel to wipe it out.

Really nice quality and heft but can be hard to configure
I was super excited to get this tamping station from Normcore. I usually focus on pour-over, so I wanted something that could hold all the essential tamping accessories and could be lifted or carried to set up or put away. I typically store this in my coffee cart, but on a shelf, not on the main surface. I take it out when I make a shot of espresso.The American Walnut looks really nice! It has a bit of polish, so itâs slightly shiny but not overly glossy or sticky. Perfect, in my opinion. There are slots for the portafilter, WDT tool, distributor tool, and tamper. Of course, the holes are sized for Normcore accessories, so my tamper fits perfectly, but I also have a non-Normcore distributor tool that fits just fine. I haven’t tried using my WDT tool in the designated slot yet. Oh, I forgot to mention there are two slots for puck screens, which is a really nice touch since there’s never a great place to store them.My biggest issue with the station is that it’s tough to determine the correct combination of rubber mats and adapters to use for a particular setup. For example, Iâm using a bottomless 54mm portafilter for my Breville. This station supports sizes up to 58mm (standard E61), but I simply can’t figure out which rubber pieces to use. When I align the basket area level, I find that my handle area is too low. Alternatively, if I align my handle area with the ground, the basket area is too high or low. I also had an issue where I managed to deeply mar or scratch the wood around the front of the basket area. I think maybe during a tamping session, I had the basket too low into the station, and one of the three portafilter fins pressed against it. I wish Normcore would publish some guidance on this.Other than that, I have really enjoyed using this Normcore tamping station. It holds all my items and is compact yet heavy and sturdy, so it doesnât move around at all.

Espresso pieces fit fine
The Normcore Compact Tamping Station is a thoughtfully designed accessory for espresso enthusiasts, aiming to enhance both the organization and efficiency of your coffee preparation process. I find I really don’t use it in my current set up but it fits my espresso pieces perfectly and is easy to clean. I have to adjust my counter to use it but that is my issue not a problem with the product

Looks great, built to store my primary espresso gadgets. Only issue is I have to move my WDT tool to tamp because you would stab yourself if you left it in the holder. Not a major issue but somewhat annoying.

My favorite espresso organizer
This Normcore unit does EVERYTHING. There are two slits for puck screens, a smaller hole for holding a WDT upside down, one large holder for your tamper and another for the distributor. Lastly the portafilter holder can also act as storage or tamping station, but we use a separate mat for tamping. The quality of this is also top notch. Sits evenly, feels well made, and the holders have precise cutouts. Highly recommended, easy to use, solid weight… very reasonable cost.

Honestly, this is a great addition to my espresso machine setup. This tamper station is of great quality and very easy to use.It’s pretty solid, easy to use, and easy to clean. You can handwash it, or put it in the dishwasher. The unit itself is a solid piece of metal. This is no flimsy piece of plastic and is well worth the price.
