Well designed & portable but tips over when grinding hard spices – so it’s really only for coffee.
I ordered this $27 GlamChi handheld coffee grinder (Amazon ASIN B0DSKDCW4S) because I wanted to grind spices in the kitchen. The overall specifications of 40 gear settings with 60µm size spacing per click of the stainless steel burrs, and the “no water rinsing required” claim, led me to believe it would be useful for spices. Did the Amazon listing mention spices? Nope. But did it say you couldn’t grind spices? Nope. However, when it arrived, the well-written manual stated two things I didn’t expect. First, it clearly says to only use it with coffee. This is related to the second point: never immerse it in water. Belatedly, I understood the logic. If you only grind coffee, you don’t need to wash it. The tiny brush included would be sufficient to remove any leftover grinds. So, I ground some coffee beans, even though I had intended to use this unit for spices. Then, I ground some spices. It’s clearly designed for coffee, as the Amazon listing implies. Grinding coffee beans requires less force; you don’t need to hold the grinder down as firmly with your left hand while rotating the gears with your right. With spices, it’s generally more difficult. You almost need two peopleâone to hold the grinder down and the other to grind. Plus, you have to wash it with water afterward, as you likely don’t want to mix spice flavors. But that’s not the grinder’s fault; it’s my own. It’s not intended for spices. The grinder itself has a nice handle, but it tends to loosen in your grip if your technique isn’t correct. A wider base might have been preferable, as it tips when you apply force. The grinder came in a surprisingly nice black 9-inch long by 5-inch wide drawstring denim cloth bag, which wasn’t mentioned in the Amazon listing. That’s a welcome bonus! Even the see-through plastic on the top and bottom is a coffee color, which complements the aesthetic.Overall, I appreciated the satisfying ease of clicking through the 40 gear settings, and I loved that you know when you’re finished grinding because the handle spins freely. Filling and emptying the grinder were so simple, highlighting its well-engineered design as a portable coffee-grinding tool.In sharing my experience, I hope this review helps you make a more informed decision.

Very great product!
This is legit! This is a very heavy, and heavy duty grinder. So many fine tuning adjustments to pick that perfect grind and it grinds perfectly and quickly! I love it for my home roasted beans!

Not quite as described
I guess I’m disappointed because this grinder is not as described. The descripition states that it is glass, and the one I received is not glass. The receptacle is plastic, and that disappoints me. If it’s not glass, please don’t describe it as glass. I don’t like misleading descriptions. The other thing I’m disappointed in is the grinder handle. It does not attach firmly to the device, and when I’m grinding my coffee, it easily slips off. It would be easier to use if it screwed on and stayed on, and could be unscrewed when cleaning or what have you. All in all, it’s not what I was expecting.

Easily portable and adjustable grinder
Great grinder so far. The burr mechanism is the best for grinding and this one seems to do a pretty good job of making a consistent grind. Not sure it could replace a high end electric grinder for a real espresso enthusiast, but I was able to adjust the grind pretty easily. The only annoying thing, and maybe it will wear off with time, is the fact that the plastic bin that the coffee dispenses into gets a pretty good static charge and the grinds, especially when fine, absolutely fly and stick to it; pretty annoying. Should also mention that the handle just sits on top of the main mechanism, which makes it slightly wobbly, but is a reasonable compromise for making the grinder easy to break into a smaller package, including the storage bag that came with the grinder. Nice and portable which is exactly the niche this grinder is trying to fill, and it does a pretty good job at that.
