I got tired of the filters made and recommended by our coffee maker. About 2 out of every 100 of them overflowed the basket or broke (or as I learned – sometimes the breaking is what caused the overflow).I’ve been using these about 2 months now, and no issues.I can’t say the the different zones do much, but I can say that the coffee blooms well in these and the water level rises to about the same point every time. There are no grounds in the coffee, the coffee tastes great, and I’m not cleaning random messes off the counter.Melita is surprisingly close-lipped about what exactly the zones are. Maybe they’re some ultra-secret proprietary paper making tech, but I guess it doesn’t matter.I bought more of them, and I am happy with the result. Do I wish they were a little less expensive? Sure. But they do what they say, don’t break or overflow, and the cost per filter certainly makes (good) coffee at home far cheaper than even a couple days buying it on the way to work.

Normally I just use the cone filter but I tried these to keep more of the sediment out. They are very good and of course the name brand says it all. I’ve been using it every day and my coffee tastes fantastic

These filters don’t overflow like the basket style I had been using. There were always coffee grounds in the coffee. These are higher and filter better.

so what this filter does is to help reduce the bitterness and chalkiness of your coffee and I would say the effect is not subtle. If you buy your coffee at the grocery store it may not be worth the premium. If, on the other hand, you go out of your way to buy your coffee at the little independent shop that roasts their own beans, odds are you will notice the difference, right away. Beans matter more but I was surprised by how significant a difference the right filter can make. Essentially, the same grounds taste richer and rounder because they do not have to compete with the harsher qualities of the bean. ‘No idea why that is but 3 out of 3 that I tried in blind taste test seems to note the same type of things. Do the math, the cost per brew is minimal, the cost differential per pot, not so much.

These are very nice but honestly I never tasted the difference between these and the regular ones by Melitta that I always buy. Won’t purchase again/ nothing wrong with them they just were not worth the extra money and hype.

Like many consumer products, every few years corporations will give you a hair less to increase shareholder value, and hope people won’t notice or that they are too young to remember what you used to get before. What does this have to do with coffee filters? This filter actually fits a standard #4 cone filter coffee maker. Most cone filters these days are now made just a little smaller than the cone.So Melitta makes a filter that actually fits, calls it “gourmet” and charges extra for it.That’s the world we live in now. These filters work fine, so no regrets using them.
