If you want to try pour over coffee, and don’t know if you will like it, this is a good choice for a beginner.Pour over, to me, especially if you grind the beans just before making it, tastes much smoother and richer. However, if you aren’t sure if you want to take the extra time to do it, this is a good choice. Doesn’t cost much so if you decide it’s too much trouble, you won’t have much invested in it.The water is supposed to be between 190 – 205 degrees (opinions vary, but they are all close to that), so to get close to this, I would boil some water in a kettle, then add a little more from the tap to cool it down from 212 deg. Grind the beans, add the ground coffee to the filter, pour enough water over them to wet them, then wait to let it “bloom” for about 30 seconds or so. Then add the rest of the water. There are much fancier setups, but this is a good one to start out with.

The item description is still wrong as of mid-December ’11. We received 1 instead of the pack of 2. Amazon was willing to correct the situation but beware going into this order. Otherwise this coffee make is easy to use and makes good brew.

I bought these for gifts This is listed as six cups but it is actually six-6oz cups. Realistically, it’s actually four 8 oz cups. I suggest going for the ten cup if you if you like to refrigerate for ice coffee only 4 stars bcz of the package but the product itself gets five starsI am a coffee purist and have used Melitta forever…seriously forever! Once you figure out ratios of ground coffee to water for your personal tastes it’s a cake walk

I have been using this type of pot for 40+ years. I wouldn’t change it for anything out there. I ordered this pot because I keep an extra in the house in case the one I’m using breaks.

Have not done pourover in about 30+ years.Rather than spend $50+ for a Chemex product I went for the $15 carafe from Mellita.Wow! The coffee tastes just as good!Really, how much does one have to spend for a simple piece of coffee equipment?Very happy with this carafe.May buy another for backup or travel.

I’ve been making coffee with this pot/cone/filter system since the early 1970s. I recently bought new cones from Melitta to replace my old ones. They redesigned the cone, removing all the “cross hatched” ribs and making the hole bigger, which allows the water to pass through too fast to make good coffee. If you couple this with the horrible redesign of their paper filters, you’ll get what is known as dishwater instead of coffee.Luckily for me, I hadn’t thrown out my old cone yet, so using that with Chemex filters makes a good pot of coffee. I prefer my Chemex pot, but it’s much easier on work mornings to use the Melitta.
