The presentation of this device is nice. Everything is bubble-wrapped, the device comes with a manual, and using this grinder seems pretty straightforward. I wanted to make a pot of coffee so I did a medium grind (nearer on the rough grind setting to about 9 clicks). My first complaint is the manual doesn’t make it clear where to begin your “clicks,” to determine grind size. The box gives you some suggested clicks, but through trial and error, I determined the best way to figure it out is to spin the adjustment wheel until both burrs are together then count backwards from there. The design is slim which is nice, though you may need a funnel or something to help guide the beans into the chamber. No measurements on the container so you’ll need to pre-portion. The grind quality itself was around what I’d expect for a ceramic burr grinder. Took a reasonable amount of time (perhaps a little longer than normal). The noise was within tolerance. I’d say the overall quality was fairly reasonable (some larger chunks than I’d expect in a medium to high grind, but I suppose I can resolve that by going finer). Lastly, the cup of coffee I made with these grounds was adequate. The real complaint I have about this product is what it’s like to actually USE it. First of all, the two components (the grinder/bean chamber + grounds chamber) slide off very easily. If you’re not constantly holding the bottom of the grinder while using it (or you choose to carry the grinder by the top) it’ll immediately slide off and you’ll end up with grounds everywhere. There’s a sort of rubber ring they include on the device, though this is merely to hold the crank when not in use. I’d really like for there to be a way to “lock” the chamber in place, even in a rudimentary sense. Also, once you open the grinder up to distribute the beans, you cannot set the grinder down. The burr side of the grinder is the only part with a somewhat flat surface and it’ll immediately get grounds everywhere if you try so you must hold the grinder in your hand while dealing with the grounds. This product is fine for what it is, but usually when you’re buying a hand grinder, you’re trading the convinence of an electric grinder for the customization of a hand grinder. A ceramic burr set in this price range should have a bit more care put into it to make the experience of using it nicer. This feels more like a $10 grinder rather than a $30 one.

Easy to work with, this grinder holds it’s handle on the side with a silicone rubber band that has a specific slot for it, and also that band makes a nice grinder holder for gripping when you’re using it. Takes a few turns to get what you want out of it, being of small circumference, but it does deliver the goods in the lower chamber nicely. Easy to grind, then put it away, and doesn’t take up much shelf space. It’s 4 stars from me because the overall make of it is not “premium”, but at the same time, certainly it is effective at doing the job. I do like the see through window on the lower half.

I already own a corded blade grinder and a rechargeable burr grinder, each has its own time and purpose. I wanted to have a manual one, for special circumstances, on the road, etc. This little device fits the bill. It looks very elegant, with mostly stainless steel body; it is very compact and can be stored in your flatware drawer; and it is powered by you. To test it, I ground beans medium-coarse for two cups. It took me no longer than 2-3 minutes, with not much noise and not too much hand strain. Now I think, instead keeping it waiting for those special circumstances in a drawer, I will take it to the office, and will have freshly-ground coffee nearly every day.I included the picture of the manual included in the box. The text is not very clear on how to disassemble, assemble, clean, adjust and fine-tune the coarseness, and it refers to some drawings which, in fact, are not present. Nevertheless, with the illustrations on the box and in the product description, and after reading the precautions in the manual, I was able to figure it out by carefully experimenting with it the unit.

I got this as a manual backup for my electric grinder in case of power outages or for use while camping. It is small and portable, easy to use, and does a good job grinding the coffee. It takes a bit of time but I assume that’s just the nature of the process. I have not used a manual grinder before this one. The space to put coffee beans into is pretty tiny so I have to be careful not to make a mess when pouring them in. The clear window to see the grounds is helpful. It was unclear how to change the grind size – looking online I see that it’s a matter of turning the dial clockwise or counter-clockwise, but there are not settings noted anywhere on the grinder itself so there is no way to know which setting it is currently on. You just have to grind some and then adjust as needed. That piece aside, this does a great job on the actual coffee, and the coarse grind quality is pretty close to what I get from my electric one so I am happy with it.

So…I live in the path of Hurricane Helene and lost power for 18 days last fall. One of the worst parts was being unable to grind coffee for that entire time! (We have a gas stove and a gas grill, so we were able to percolate or do a French Press…but we only had whole bean coffee and all the pre-ground coffee was gone from the grocery shelves in about a day…)At any rate. I got this to have on hand in case we ever experience a storm of the century again — or to take camping. Whichever comes first. It’s very easy to use and a nice size. I’m a small-ish woman and can easily grip the canister in one hand and grind with the other. Well-designed. The stainless steel is durable and also looks great.Glad to have this on hand…and look forward to taking it on my next trip!
