GREAT Product!! — This is a basic, handsome, & large tea chest of reasonably good quality at an –extremely– affordable price.
This Lipper International Tea Chest is an affordable and very good-quality tea chest. If you are looking for a tea chest that is on the value side of pricing, but still has good quality, this is a great choice.Sized externally at about 12L x 7.25W x 3.5H inches (inner dimensions are about .35 inches less as that is the approximate thickness of the walls) this Lipper International tea box is constructed of bamboo and has 8 separate compartments to organize tea. The compartments are made from a single insert (rather than glued down) and so you can remove them to have an open box without compartments if you so desire. A small chain holds the lid open at about a 120 degree angle. Using hardware that is brass (presumably plated), it not only looks good with the bamboo, but will help prevent corrosion (always a plus for something used in the kitchen.) Each of the 8 compartments can fit (for me) about 12-20 tea bags, depending upon the size/thickness of the individual package.I am very happy with the product that I got. As a start, the size is generous and so I can fit the wide varieties of tea I have all into the same box…a lot of tea chests are too small for this. The bamboo looks really good and by finishing it with just a laminating material allows the beauty of the bamboo to shine. While it does not have the visual striking appearance of many hard woods, the bamboo is a classy finish that blends well with most every decor. Thanks to it being laminated, upkeep is minimal (now and then a rub down with something like a tiny bit of butcher’s block oil will bring back its shine.) Bamboo is a very strong material and it should give this box good longevity and good resistance to damage. On the downside, the hinges are lighter duty and the chain used to hold the box open uses extremely delicate hardware which may need replacement with extended usage…with that said, these are pretty minor issues for something priced so affordably. Finally, the height of the tea box is not tall enough for the unusually large tea bags…which, while not an issue for me, may be an issue if you constantly drink a certain tea that comes in a very large wrapper. So overall, I am absolutely thrilled with the design & quality for under 20 bucks shipped. There are many tea chests available that are made gorgeous with some of the finest hardwoods on planet Earth…and they usually come with a price tag that reflects this. I wanted a good-looking tea box of generous size that is of reasonably good-quality and for a reasonable price price…this Lipper International does exactly that, and so if that is the type of tea chest you are seeking, this is a great choice!

    Outstanding
I was a little bit trigger-shy about this after seeing many reviews that received damaged boxes, but took a chance and ordered a couple anyway. I’m glad that I did.Appearance:These things look really good (especially considering the shelf full of boxes and random bags we had before!). They’re pretty much exactly what you see in the picture: simple, clean bamboo and a clear plexiglass lid. The concealed hinges give the boxes a clean finish. Unless you actually touch the lid, you’d think it was glass. The thing wouldn’t stand up to being run over by a car, but it doesn’t feel flimsy. And, while nobody will confuse it with an expensive mahogany humidor, it doesn’t look cheap, either.Size:The default configuration of eight squares worked fine for most of our tea. Without any problems, I was able to fit Stash, Celestial Seasonings, Tazo, Twinnings, Generic brands, a small bag of loose-leaf (along with an infuser), and some off-brand tea my wife found. Oversized Lipton iced tea and hot chocolate bags didn’t fit, but those are pretty big.The compartments are removable (so, options for 8, 4, 2 & 1 openings), but the dividers are notched (where the pieces fit together. No biggie, you can just flip the notch so that it faces downward, and it won’t be visible once you’ve filled the container.Quality:The wood is fairly soft, as is the plexiglass. That, plus the typical variations in mass-manufactured processes, and I can absolutely believe that some people are seeing defects. Or, even if you receive the product correctly, it’d be pretty easy to scratch, scuff, stain, or break. One of the two I received has a small scuff in the finish….Against the semi-light finish, you don’t notice the defect at a glance. If the lid were to be slightly off, I’d expect something like it hanging open 1/16th of an inch — not all that noticeable.A defect is a defect, but none of the issues reported in these comments should be unexpected. We’re talking about a $25 box that was made in a factory in China; not a hand-crafted heirloom piece. Of what I read, the issues were either caused in shipping/handling, or were the kinds of small defects you’d expect (and can live with) in a value product like this.

The Pros & Cons of This Tea Box
I have had this box for over two years now and I just love it. I am an avid tea drinker and I love the fact that I can have all my teas organized at my fingertips on the counter, but still looking pretty.I have the box divided into medicinal / herbal teas to the left and darker flavored teas to the right. It does fit quite a lot of tea bags. I buy Twinings, Good Earth, Bigelow, and Yogi teas. They all fit, but the lid will not close 100%. There will be a tiny gap. If you are OCD, then this may not be for you.The Pros:~ fits about 10 tea bags or so in each slot, so you are looking at a selection of 80 teas.~ made from wood and glass, not plastic~ holds up well over repeated use and time (have had it two years +)The Cons:~ lid does not close all the way when full of tea bags~ glass lid is fragile, so you need to be careful that nothing falls out of your cabinets on to it.~ dividers are permanent – you can’t rearrange themConclusion: Would make a nice gift for a friend or yourself. Perfect if you love tea and have a large selection. It is meant to be displayed on the counter and used by adults, not carried around or transported due to the fragile glass lid.

BEAUTIFUL tea box! Nicely finished, no sharp bits or rough spots on the bamboo. Opens and closes nicely and look fantastic on the counter. Holds lots of tea bags, as well as all of my infuses and bag string holders. Would make an excellent gift for any tea lover. I highly recommend this item.

Before buying, I read the reviews and knew that it would probably not be the most beautiful and sturdy box in the world. For $40, it’s a decent tea box. Twinings and Stash tea bags fit without any issues, but Traditional Medicinals tea bags are bit taller and result in the lid not closing completely (however, I don’t find it that noticeable). For the record, the hinges on my box are the ones in the photo with the jewellery inside, not the tea bags (i.e. the smaller hinges).Pros: The outside is well finished (no wood bits sticking out, no rough areas). The wood is reasonably sturdy. Box stays open on its own. The tea bags are clearly visible and overall it looks nice. My particular box arrived with no scratches on the plastic. (There’s the tiniest of mark on it, but you only notice it if you really inspect it.)Cons: If you set it on an even surface, there is the slightest movement – it’s not completely balanced/even. The inside has some areas that feel a bit rough and unfinished. The clear plastic panel feels cheap.Overall, I’m happy with it. I reckon one day I’ll spend more money and buy a nicer and sturdier box, but for now, it does the trick and looks lovely.

Beautiful and well made. only thing i noticed is that the hinges are pretty stiff and dont go much part 91 or 92 degrees for the cover. Others we have a swing back about 95 degrees.
