Great Coffee!
Doesn’t leave me jittery. Full body. I bought a bag and enjoyed it so much I sent a bag to a friend who is a connoisseur. The guy who weighs out his grinds and takes the temperature of the water…. He loved it!

Great for espressos, macchiatos & cappucinos, a little weak for lattes
The short & sweet:Pros: good quality, fresh beans.Con: might be too sweet for people that like espressoI am a big espresso fan and usually aim to try new flavors out there. Kicking Horse has been always on my mind when purchasing beans but I can’t recall the last time I actually did. So, when I ran out of my personal batch, I decided to give them a try. I love medium roasts, although most of the ones I get are usually light because I prefer the bitter/acidity taste for my specialty drinks (mix with milk). Nevertheless, I wanted to try the Cliff Hanger medium roast and see if I would like it.Beans: the beans are oily and fresh in the packaging, and smell deliciousEspresso: straight up pulled shot, the Cliff Hanger is aromatic and gives off (to me & my nose) a light taste of dark chocolate. It is sweet to the taste and acidity levels are minimum.Macchiato: I think this is where this bean shines! A macchiato with the Kicking Horse tastes heavenly! There is a sweet spot for any bean and I think this is it!Cappuccino: I do enjoy sweet cappuccinos, but do have to say the coffee is a little distant in this mixtureLatte: I feel like this blend is too “smooth” for lattes and gets lost in the milkOverall: I think the Kicking Horse is a great bean if you want to use it for espressos, macchiatos or cappuccino. If you are an avid latte drinker and like the coffee taste, this might be on the lighter side for you.

Very nice blend
I’m not a super coffee snob, but I really like this blend. It has a nice mild flavor, but rich enough to not be overpowered by my creamer (yes, I use creamer ð±). I just use it in a Keurig (yes, I use a Keurig ð±ð±) and it’s great. I haven’t prepared it as actual Espresso. So if you are a regular Joe who like to enjoy a cup of joe in the good old-fashioned way, you will probably enjoy this blend.

Great Marketing, Wonderful Aroma, Superficial Flavor
Disclaimer: I’m a total coffee amateur. My usual morning cup is a cappuccino made with freshly ground beans in a single serving stovetop maker. I occasionally French press, rarely drip and rarely Turkish. I normally like dark, strong, and moderately sweet coffee. I had been fairly satisfied with my grocery store’s bulk espresso beans (Melitta I think), but since they couldn’t seem to keep it stocked, and I figured I could find something better, I decided to try Kicking Horse. After reading all the positive reviews, I had high hopes for this brand. I started with the Cliff Hanger Espresso which had an amazing aroma, but a surprising lack of flavor and mouth feel. Not a bad or burnt flavor, just very little. I tried French pressing and dripping. I even bought a ceramic mill to get an extremely fine grind. Still the flavor was nothing like the aroma (or the reviews) suggested. I ended up giving that bag away to an appreciative friend.Next I tried the Grizzly Claw based on Kicking Horse’s description: “Those brave enough to take on this wild, dark roast will be rewarded with ample-bodied flavour.” The aroma was not quite equal to that of the Cliff Hanger, but the flavor was decidedly bolder, though one-dimensional. I found I needed to use more sugar to try to round out the flavor, which is something I try to avoid.Since then I’ve tried Lavazza Super Crema, which has extraordinary roundness and depth, but not quite the boldness I’ve been searching for (though it seems to be teaching me that boldness isn’t as important as I thought). Still searching, suggestions welcome.Kicking Horse conclusion: Good, but overrated – I suspect in part due to their great marketing (organic, fair trade, recycled packaging, blah, blah, and colorful descriptions involving bravery and such).

Despite being labeled as medium roast, these beans have a slightly darker appearance with a natural oil sheen. Donât let this fool you – they produce magnificent crema and zero burnt taste. The flavor profile is uniquely woody with a perfect balance between bitter and sweet notes, leaving no unpleasant aftertaste.

We love Kicking Horse coffee! This specific flavour is probably the most loved bean in our home! I suggest grinding it fresh in the morning right before you brew a cup, you won’t be disappointed! Full bold flavour, not to acidic with an amazing punch! I drink a lot of coffee and this would have to be my go to!- For some reason the photo in my review is showing *Cliff Hanger* although it is a delicious bean, my specific review is for the Hola bean!

Having moved away from the land of good coffee, finding a good espresso bean has been a nightmare. On a whim, I ordered these as I had previously tried another flavour of theirs, and to my surprise, they tasted fantastic for a latte! For sure there are better tasting espresso beans out on the market, but these beans hit the perfect taste-to-cost ratio, so I would highly recommend these if you’re looking for a budget friendly, but great tasting, espresso bean.
