Great mead variation
I’ve tried out a home brewing mead kit before and it was pretty good. This kit is even better since the process and ingredients are seemingly the same as regular mead, but you can add some nice flavors with the included spices that go in towards the end. Everything is measured out for you perfectly, so it takes a lot of the hassle and legwork out of it, but the spices still give it a little extra flavor that seems just right this time of year. This set is great, I highly recommend it.

Perfect for Holiday (or winter) Mead!
I love making mead but haven’t tried it with spices before; they are a great addition to the traditional version and really give it some holiday spirit. They seem to have thought of everything with this set – it even includes an empty tea bag to put the spices in so they’re not just floating around. This is a great set and makes some seriously tasty mead.

Great for beginners!
This mead making kit would be great for a beginner as a gift. If youâre a regular home brewer or make any kind of homemade alcohol, youâll find this very rudimentary and likely lacking compared to what youâre used to. For amateurs or novices like me, itâs a fun science project that you get to drink later.Iâve bought beer brewing kits and wine making kits before, and theyâre usually a lot of fun, and this seems to be made as well as others Iâve bought, so I expect good things. As with any home brewing project, your mileage will vary based on your ingredients, setup, skill level, patience, etc..If you see any bad reviews from anyone on here at any point, it wasnât bc of the lack of equipment needed or them shorting you anything needed â it would likely be just inexperience talking, so donât be afraid to give this a try. Even if you fail (and I doubt you will if you take your time to follow instructions and maybe poke around on the interwebz in advance for tips and best practices), youâll probably have a nice experience to enjoy. Sometimes itâs not just about the end, but the journey. But mead is super yummy, and once you learn what youâre doing, you can duplicate it again and again and experiment with flavoring your mead too!Itâs a good build quality, and mead is easily one of the simpler things to make â easier than wine or beer, and those are pretty simple. The Vikings brewed it in the open air with extremely rudimentary tools. You really canât beat this! Now go out there and embrace your inner Viking! Grab a horn, fill it up, and enjoy until Valhalla!! Cheers!!

Love it
This was my first time making mead and itâs definitely a labor of love. The great thing about this product is that it makes what seems like a long and complicated process nice and simple. The kit provides everything you need other than honey, plus easy to follow step-by-step instructions. I did have a question along the way and reached out to the Blue Ox Brewing people, and they got back to me quickly with a helpful response. Nice company and nice kit!

Complete , easy-to-use kit – great to have everything in one box
I have always wanted to make mead since my old Renaissance faire days, walking around with my wooden mug filled with the glorious, golden elixir. I saw this kit and had to order it – I keep bees and gather my own honey, so it was time to start. I really appreciate that everything except the water and honey was included – even the empty tea bag to put the spices into! – and the spices and sanitizer were each in their own, sturdy, clearly labeled bags. One note: the Amazon item title says “hydrometer,” but there is not one in this kit (spiced mead), only the deluxe kit, just FYI. It is not shown in the itemization photo. The materials all seem to be of decent quality. The instructions were pretty clear and easy, but as a first-timer I could have used a tiny bit more clarity for a step or two (like for adding the second nutrition packet – do I swirl it in? Dump it in and leave it on top of the foam? It didn’t say, so I compromised with a slight swirl and it seems to be doing fine; also, it said to fill the airlock with water to the mark, and I could not find any mark on mine. I found online where it is filled about half full, so went with that).I didn’t time it, but from opening the box to putting the bubbling carboy in the bottom of the pantry couldn’t have taken more than a couple hours. I warmed the honey (it takes 40 oz and I wanted to use several 8-oz jars I had on the shelf) a bit to make it pour more easily. Everything worked as it should, I am on the fourth day, and I am now awaiting Day 7 to interact with it again. This has been a fun process so far – I keep sneaking into the pantry to look at it: “Is it still alive? it’s not bubbling over, is it? Look at its little burps!”This is a fun first-time experience and I am really looking forward to the end result in a few months! Thanks, Blue Ox, for a good product, a great time, and hopefully a delicious end result! Two thumbs up! 🙂

1 month to Mead
I waited too long to buy this, so unfortunately it won’t be ready for Christmas this year. It takes a full month to brew. However, I have friends who love mead, and I’ve tried my hand at beer (decent) and Limoncello (great success! LOL!), so I thought I’d try making this for them. I have my own swing top bottles and a local apiary that has great local honey, which is good because they aren’t included in this kit, but everything else is. All the spices, yeast, cleaning/sterilizing powder, brewing jug, hoses, seals, and nutrients. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. I just added nutrients again, and it’s looking like it’s supposed to and has a sweet, yeasty scent, so I think it’s going well so far. I’m really eager to taste this, and with all the hardware provided, I should be able to get the ingredients again to make more if it turns out well. It’s a fun little brewing project!
