Loved my old one
Update – do not buy this coffee maker ! 2 issues : frequently drops it WiFi connection in the Amazon Alexa app . Device shows unresponsive and the only way to reconnect it is to remove it from the Amazon Alexa list and reinstall it ! Secondly : I have been unable to make more than 2 or 3 pods before the coffee maker errors and says the needle is clogged . My old one never did this even after years of use . Itâs obvious that there is a water pump that isnât powerful enough to clear coffee grinds as well as a poor needle design . Unfortunately my return window closed by the time my patience ran out . Get a keurig ) old review : This is the 3rd Flex brew coffee maker that Iâve owned. My last one was the same as this one although without Alexa integration . I loved my prior ones . They all lasted about 5 years each with multiple uses each day . This one so far ? Not so much . The pros : 1) removable water reservoir for k cup 2) size and layout . 3) heated pot area 4) Programable 5) Alexa integration . 6) price . Cons : 1) no removable reservoir on pot side . 2) no water level indicator on the glass pot side like prior models 3) water level for 12 cups on the pot as well as the reservoir is so close to overflowing that itâs pretty hard not to spill some . 4) the deal breaker con ? Mine takes over 25 minutes to make a whole pot . My last one was 12 . It takes forever . It is an actual drip – not a stream . And on mine , pulling out the pot while brewing slows the flow but doesnât stop it completely . And finally â¦ give us back physical buttons . Touch sensitive controls are terrible on low end appliances like these . Not to mention they almost always look dirty with finger prints. So at least make it less glossy to help hide that . The conclusion ? I recently tried to reach out to the manufacturer to inquire as to whether or not I have a defective machine. If I donât get a response soon , I will just return this as defective . Iâm honestly not sure If I would buy this again or recommend it . I always try and be fair with my reviews . So I will update this review when and if things change . ( updated review : one additional software bug : the time will randomly display in military time when it hits midnight . The clock shows 0:00 am until 1 am ) update 5/15/24 : customer service is terrible . They offer no help except to send you instruction manual screenshots on how to unclog the machine . Duh !

A Coffee Maker that can do everything? This is the ONE! Regular up to 12 cups, pods system or just a regular one cup, this machine can do it all! Also it connects via Alexa and you can program making time and “keep warm” time, up to 4 hours, which is really convenient.

Full-featured coffee maker made especially for Alexa
The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio 2-Way Smart Coffee Maker has it all. You can make a single cup using K-cups or your own ground coffee using the included single serve brew basket. (No filter needed for this basket.) Or you can make up to 12 cups using the carafe.SINGLE SERVE BREWING: All parts are well-made and function smoothly. The K-cup holder and single serve brew basket have a handle and lifts out easily so you can dump the used K-cup or grounds without burning your hand. (Manual recommends rinsing these under running water after each use.) These are stored neatly under the removable cup rest. I really like that the top needle is removable for cleaning. You can choose from 8, 10, 12, or 14 oz. cup sizes. (Each cup size is about 1.25 oz over what it says. Keurig machines are about 1 oz under. So, you may have to adjust your brew accordingly.) You can also choose regular or bold brew. It brews as fast as a Keurig in normal mode. In economy mode, the unit is asleep to conserve power and takes about an extra minute to heat up. Has a clear, easy fill 56 oz. water tank on the back for single serve use. (Carafe brew has its own tank behind the brew basket.) The single serve lid snaps closed to ensure proper piercing of K-cups and prevent rising while brewing. There is a release lever on the front.CARAFE BREWING: Comes with a quality brew basket but no reusable filter (must use paper filters). The swivel shower head automatically moves back into place when you close the lid. The 12-cup carafe is good quality glass with sturdy plastic handle and hinged lid. Keep Warm plate can be set to turn off after 1, 2, 3, or 4 hours.CONTROL PANEL: The panel is laid out intuitively and the color display is large, bright, and clear. The touch sensitivity is one of the best Iâve seen. The user manual suggests that there is a main power button, but I found none. There is a button with the standard power symbol and the words âBrew Now.â This button will start/stop brewing in either mode. When carafe brewing is finished it can be used to turn off the warmer plate. If the unit is not connected to wi-fi, you can set the time by touching the clock icon. If connected to wi-fi, the clock is set automatically, and this button can be used to turn off the clock display. Timer scheduled brewing can only be done using the Alexa App. You can set cup size and brew strength but not temperature. All settings are remembered from the last use. The display will let you know if the water tank is empty or the needle is clogged. The display also counts the oz. as it is brewing so you can see how close it is to being finished.Wi-Fi and ALEXA: While it can be used in basic mode without wi-fi, this unit is designed especially for Alexa. There is no timer or brew scheduling built in. This feature and other routines must be done in the Alexa App. Setup and connection to wi-fi is simple. In the Alexa App you can see the status of several features. You can also adjust all settings except cup size and switching between single-serve and carafe modes. I find it odd that these are the only settings that must be done on the control panel. VOICE commands include start/stop brewing, check or change brew strength, check or change economy mode, check or change keep warm plate time, check if cleaning is required, check status of brewing and how long it has been since coffee was brewed. Whatâs missing is check or change cup size and change carafe or single-serve mode.Obviously, you must prepare the unit to brew before using these smart features. You must add water and coffee, choose mode, set brew strength, cup size, and put your cup or carafe on the unit. Once these are done, you touch the âReady to Brewâ button to activate control via Alexa routines or voice. In this standby state the unit waits for a voice command or schedule routine to start brewing. Otherwise, you can touch the âBrew Nowâ button to start brewing immediately.Being visually impaired, for me, the real advantage of the smart features is that I can see the app much better than the usual small screens on other coffee makers. Additionally, you can set up Alexa routines to integrate the coffee maker with other devices. For example, you can create a routine that turns on the lights, starts the coffee brewing, plays music, the weather or news, turns on the TV, opens the shades, etc. A routine like this can be on a schedule or activated by voice. If you use Alexa alarms to wake you in the morning, you can add a routine like this that is triggered when you turn off the alarm. Personally, I love this stuff!TIP: One important thing to remember: be sure to prepare the unit for brewing before any routines run or voice commands are given. Otherwise, you will get unexpected results. Also, remember to touch the âReady to Brewâ button after preparation to activate smart control or nothing will happen.WHY MINUS ONE STAR: Inaccurate cup size. No temperature adjustment. Missing ability to adjust mode and cup size via Alexa. This prevents creating custom routines for each personâs favorite settings. It would be great to say, âAlexa, set my brewâ and have it set my single-serve, brew strength, cups size, and even start brewing if I choose. Then my wife could say the same thing and it switch to her favorite settings. Or this could be done on a schedule. Another thing is it does not send notifications to Alexa that can announce things like, âcoffee is ready,â water tank is empty,â âneedle is clogged,â âcoffee maker needs cleaning,â etc. You cannot even create routines to do this. Lastly, the coffee maker cannot be used to initiate a routine. Its smart features can only be added as actions in the routine. This would be okay if it included mode and cup size. Maybe they will add these features later through a firmware and Alexa app update. If so, this would be a solid five star product. (I told you I love this stuff)FINAL WORDS: All brew methods make a good cup of coffee if you use good grounds and good water. This unit is very quiet. It does have a large footprint, but itâs two machines in one. If you enjoy playing with Alexa, you will like this coffee maker.
