I’ve never had a coffee claiming to be light roast that is this dark. Maybe specific to this batch of beans. Going in the trash!

I buy coffee across the cost spectrum ($12-$70 for 12 ounces) so have a reasonable perspective on what’s out there. While this one isn’t “fancy” coffee, it’s a good breakfast blend for someone who likes a roasty cup that isn’t too dark. It’s full bodied and has an acidic edge to it (like the good kind it’s supposed to have, not the “burned” kind people sometimes call acidic). I’d call it a medium roast; it’s pretty dark to be considered a light roast. The bag recommends a 1:15 brew ratio, and while I usually do closer to 1:13, the 1:15 works well for this blend for me. Being organic and tasty, I think this coffee is a good value.

This is light medium roast, it has about the same acidity as the bitterness. Acidity means more bean flavor; a darker roast means more bitterness. This is with 8 oz water in a Keurig. Add half and half and the acidity varnishes, it also smooths out the brew.So if you like more bean flavor, go with light roast with cream, no sugar. People that cut out sugar are medium to light roast drinker. French roast coffee drinker requires a sweetener, the longer roast time produces the most bitterness, which obscure the bean flavors.

I’m not a coffee conneseuir by any means but I’m slowly becoming more experienced to what I like in coffee. This coffee arrived in a fairly small bag but it is only 10 oz of coffee. The aroma of the coffee has some strong vibes of brown sugar. The smell of the sugar is a little burnt which may be why the beans appear a little dark. The aroma didn’t seem super fresh like I’ve smelled from higher beans. The quality seems good. I threw some beans in my grinder and received grounds that are easily lighter. Maybe light/medium.The resulting coffee from a standard drip machine resulted in a fairly fresh smooth brew. The bitterness is non existent and the acidity is light.

This coffee has a smooth, medium-light roast that’s easy to drink but doesn’t pack a ton of flavor. It’s great if you prefer something mellow for your morning cup. The beans are fresh and grind well, but I found myself wanting a bit more depth in the taste

Groundwork Coffee Co.’s Organic Honduras Whole Bean Coffee earns high marks for its sustainability and ethical sourcing. With certifications like USDA Organic and Regenerative Organic, it’s clear this brand is committed to farming practices that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, AND worker welfare—a rarity in the coffee world. The coffee itself is smooth and approachable, with hints of caramelized sugar and toasted nuts. It doesn’t deliver the vibrant complexity some light roast enthusiasts might expect, but it’s well-balanced and enjoyable as a daily brew. Its medium-light body and lack of bitterness make it a forgiving and versatile option. At $16.50 for 10oz, it’s not the most affordable coffee, but knowing you’re supporting responsible farming practices makes the price worth it. Perfect for those who value sustainability and ethics as much as flavor.Verdict: A solid, feel-good coffee that’s easy to drink and easy on your conscience.

This is a 10 oz bag of organic whole bean Honduras coffee from Groundwork Coffee Co. It arrived fresh and factory sealed. Opening the bag, the beans smell great and are an appropriate color for a light-toward-medium roast. They are not oily and don’t have any other visible defects. I use a conical burr grinder and a French press to brew my coffee. I brewed this coffee according to my usual preferred measurements and method. This coffee is lovely, and hits all the right notes in terms of brightness, bitterness, smoothness, body, etc. I would say the tasting notes on the label are correct, with brown sugar and red fruit/currant notes. I love that this coffee is organic, and ethically and sustainably produced. I really enjoyed this coffee, and I think it makes a great special occasion/treat yourself coffee.
