This is a solid piece of kit! Ships in a decent box for storage. Comes with a cleaning cloth, long-handled cleaning brush, and hydrometer test instructions. The plastic tube that came with my hydrometer never allowed me to properly level the old tube or clearly see through them to get an accurate reading. Now, I can easily and quickly level the test jar and read my hydrometer, ensuring accurate SG measurements.I highly recommend this test jar to anyone serious about winemaking. I am happy I have added this quality glassware to my winemaking kit.

This is my first time making maple syrup. I just moved last year to a new home that has many maple trees and got super excited to start making it. When I was reading and researching how to make it and what I would need, I decided to purchase a hydrometer and test tube. I bought the hydrometer from this company and it is exquisite as well. The hydrometer I purchases is specifically for maple syrup but I know they sell them for many other types of testing as well.Lots of stores around me sell test tubes but they are the classic metal kind. All of the maple syrup supply stores that I visited online also only sell the metal kind. I chose to buy this one because it is clear and that makes reading the hydrometer very easy.As for ability to withstand heat, I have used it for many batches of syrup this year and I often test it right out of the currently boiling pot and the tube has been totally fine having boiling hot (~220*F) syrup poured into it.I am sure that it is a lot more breakable than the metal kind and it does feel delicate so I am just super duper careful when handling it. I always store it back in the box it came in and when I am not using it but still need it, I just push it up against the wall on the counter so that it has less chance of being bumped and falling over.Definitely a perfect product and I would continually purchase this item over any other test tube. Even if mine broke, I would buy this one again to replace it.

I should have bought this sooner
For decades I’ve been using my hydrometer’s plastic storage tube for making measurements – it didn’t cost me anything extra and minimized wasted must, but it wasn’t stable, not easy to clean, and a tad *too* narrow (the pulp of a recent peach mead had me doubting the OG reading). I’ve known of this cylinder and had it on my wish list for years until just recently buying it.I wish I hadn’t waited so long – this this is about as perfect as a home brewer could ask for. It’s just a hair wider than the hydrometer storage tube, minimizing waste while giving just a little more room to float freely. The base makes it stable, and the plastic collar guards against breakage should it be accidentally tipped over. Being glass and coming with a cleaning brush makes it super easy to keep clean. It can be stored safely in it’s box, and there’s also enough room in the box to hold my hydrometer safe in its plastic tube as well.

Clean & convenient
Included handy instructions on hydrometer use, and also plastic ring to protect against breaking if it fell over. The ring also serves as a marker for fill line.
