Many years ago my first cup of coffee was a cup of coffee and chicory: very milky with sugar. It certainly set me off on a life of serious coffee drinking. In those days, coffee and chicory was the cheaper option; instant coffee and chicory was the cheapest option. But its milder flavour and (completely unverified data alert) lower acidity meant, at least, that you could drink it all day without losing your mind.Strangely, today, it appears on Amazon as just about the most expensive coffee a chap can find. The current price works out at Â£20GBP/lb weight. That is FOUR TIMES the price of some estimable and widely available 100% coffees. Youâll think me mad, but I am still pleased with my purchase. For special occasions, and those mornings where I donât have to rise quite so early, it fits the bill; and itâs still cheaper than actually buying a coffee rather badly made by a stranger.My only real gripe is in the (very attractive) packaging: a ring pull cap with a re-sealable plastic lid. The plastic lid is so badly made that mine actually disintegrated on first use. At Â£20/lb one might reasonably expect something with a screw thread.My âhackâ (as I understand we have to say these days) is to deploy an alternative lid, which can be sourced from either East EndÂ® brand butter ghee, or GeffenâsÂ® breadcrumbs â either of which will set you back another Â£3.50.As I say: very expensive coffee.

Ohhh la la!
I love coffee and, I especially love dark coffee. I usually buy Cafe Bustello for making Cuban coffee (itâs warm brew, pour over and condensed.) but not at the current price. When I first saw this French market coffee with chicory I had to give it a try since the price point is also very nice. I immediately fell in love on first sip and my entire family also has fallen in love. We now have this coffee on auto ship and buy nothing else. Before now, I never had chickory coffee and now understand the allure. Itâs smooth, adds depth of flavor and I have not had the jitters once. Please never raise the price and I will be a lifetime customer!

A taste of NOLA in Oklahoma.
The coffee in this is perfect! My husband has missed this since we moved away from New Orleans. My only complaint is the can had a small indent in it, hence the 4 stars. If you don’t care if the can is dented, it isn’t an issue. We re-use the cans, so the dent was annoying but not major and did not affect the product inside at all.I would recommend if you care about the can itself though, to go pick it up in person at Whole Foods.
