Set up is great but temperature is off
The temperature on this it too volatile. At times it wouldnât seal the tube and others it would burn right through the plastic. There arenât clean lines on any of the tubes I sealed. A lot of waisted products due to burn though or not sealing all the way. However, the machine is nice on the way that it sits and is easy to hold. I used it for beauty tubes so it may work better for sealing packages.

Fast, accurate seal.
I have only used this product on Aluminized Mylar resealable bags. At 150C, nicely crimps and seals the bag in a few seconds. It seems to be as strong as a factory seal. I haven’t had it long enough to evaluate its durability, but it appears to be well made and sturdy.

We purchased this because of Howard W.’s review, in which he states that he is using it for the gold retort canning bags (distinct from Mylar) for food storage. Our JVR chamber vacuum sealer – while an excellent machine overall – is seriously marginal for sealing retort bags, as the built-in seal heating time (even with the custom ‘retort bar’) cannot be set long enough for a truly reliable seal.. Why JVR could not build an extra second or two of seal time into the machine software is just beyond me.Unfortunately Howard’s review did not state tested times or temperature for the retort bags -* 150 DEGREES FOR 4 SECONDS * creates – once cool – a seal that you literally cannot get apart with pliers (and I’ve tried); the bag rips to shreds before the seal ever lets go. Note that full warm-up time on the machine is critical – I like the feature where the green ‘heating’ light goes out and the red ‘ready’ light stays on once temp is reached.As another reviewer commented, put a cutting board underneath – even with the little stand-off legs, this machine is HOT.We use the 80 micron weight retort bags because the 100-weight was even worse in our JVR, but will likely go up to the 100 microns now (not that you can really tell any difference visually) as I’m certain this sealer will work just as well on them.We’re very excited to have this machine because failing seals during pressure canning processing was our number one issue with retort canning. Like others have found, the knob hardly feels like precision German engineering – the Chinese still have a ways to go. But the machine works just fantastic for our purposes and we’re definitely going to expand the range of foods which we retort can, now that we can get 100% reliable long-term seals..

For Sealing Retort Pouches
I purchased this item to provide a secondary seal to retort pouches which I use for pressure canning. These are the multi layer generally gold colored pouches SPECIFICALLY DESIGNATED RETORT POUCHES. Not ordinary mylar pouches. My chamber vacuum sealer, a LEM Max Vac Pro will just barely do this, and requires multiple applications of the seal bar. I was using an ordinary iron for a secondary seal, and to work properly I needed to iron both sides in a process that wasn’t very controllable. The problem with retort pouches is pressure inside the pouch as the pressure canner cools. The contents of the pouches do not cool as fast as the water in the canner cools. This results in the pouches inflating and building pressure. This limits the amount of food you can place in these pouches because you need considerable expansion room, and also puts stress on the seal because which is still hot/warm, and so in it’s weakest state. The wide multi groove heat seal with heat applied on both sides at once looks like it will make a much stronger seal, probably stronger than the factory weld… I can’t tear it apart once cooled. This solves ONE of my problems…..the seal. I’m developing a method of holding the pressure canner at 15 psi after taking it off the heat until everything cools off, using air pressure, and this will solve the volume issue. As it is you have to use a large pouch for a small amount of food.

Amazing and a Must Have!
This is very easy to use and heats up fast! We use it on 10mil n 16mil mylar and it seals with ease in seconds. The solid teeth grip solves the issues the cheap heat strip models use that wears out quickly and has to be replaced. Nothing here to replace – just solid teeth that heat up n get job done fast. The adjustable dial is also super nice as well as the support brackets to keep the hot blades off your counter – though we still use a cutting board underneath it to be safe. Highly recommend as this is very solid and well made.

Heat not consistant
I bought a large one about 16″ and was very excited when recieved it However when i actually started using the thing as extremely disappointed as I would set the heat to a good temperature and it burns through the first bag whiles it is cooling down the next two bags would seal properly then the heating element does not turn back on in time so it cools down and the rest of bags cannot seal as it is now too cool ……so i wait and wait and takes a long time to turn back on so the temperature you set never remains its always a hit and miss…The produts handles great and looks great but unfortunately heat does not stay where u set it

Seals Kraft metalized PET bags in a second.
This sealer arrived shortly after ordered. I use it to seal1 & 2 oz Kraft “chocolate/energy bar” bags. It works perfectly, heats up fast and appears to keep temp after sealing 30 bags continuously. My only issue is that the temp control knob appears to be a little wobbly. I ordered this model because my product takes up most of the bag. There isn’t much bag left to seal and this machine will seal right up to the edge of my product.
