Defective and Unavailable For Refund
The dehydrated scoby never rehydrated and did not product any changes in the tea mixture after 3 weeks. It would have been cheaper and easier to use a bottle of unflavored kombucha as the starter. I purchased a proper scoby and a great first brew in 8-10 days.

Work as described. Be sure to check your temperature at every step
Iâve recently stumbled into the homebrew hobby because I was tired of making grape jam off 60 lb. of concord grapes grown in a tiny urban backyard every year. Although I am not a huge kombucha consumer, I jumped on the opportunity to try out this line of brewing. After all, the benefits of consuming probiotic beverages/foods are well established. The steps are simple enough. In my opinion, the only precaution is to watch the initial temperature (do not drop the dehydrated SCOBY into a boiling or hot tea! You will kill the living microbes.) and also the ambient temperature in the ensuing 30 days. I ran into some troubles in the latter because it was in the middle of a frigid winter here. My drafty old house often dipped under 65 F at night, far below the recommended 68 F. I had to wrap the jar in a heated blanket. I also occasionally sprayed vinegar over the filter paper that covered the opening of the jar. After exactly 30 days, the kombucha tea is done! I double-checked the tea with the included pH indicator. The tea looked like the day it was made (no mold for sure). The tea tastes ⦠well like kombucha ð¤¤.I did make a mistake by using double the amount of recommended sugar. That did not seem to impact the fermentation much. The tea tastes a bit sweeter than usual. Since this is only the rehydration process, I immediately started the first batch using the âliveâ SCOBY. My understanding is that good and healthy SCOBY should be able to replicate itself and produce a baby SCOBY. Iâll declare victory for now.

Very slow
The process is much slower than expected. My own homemade fruit enzyme form SCOPY are faster. Just to test it out and would not buy again.

Works great!
This is my second kombucha scoby from Cultures for Health and I love how easy it is to reconstitute and use. The first one I had was years ago, and we ended up giving it and the other scobys it created away because we had to move a long distance. Life has been crazy since, so we’re just now ready to restart making kombucha again, and this one is reconstituting perfectly at 20 days. We’ve made several other items from Cultures for health and they’re always high quality.

Not working
Did instructions. Has been in container for 7 wks. Purchased scobi on bottom & so very little area of skim on top.

Kombucha started, everything looks good.
For a starter kit, this is set up really nicely. Plenty of useful information and directions. Simple to follow and easy to make. Aside from waiting on tea to cool off to room temperature, this took about one hour. The provided Scoby looked and felt moist. Everything worked out fine with the directions. Itâs also a really cool project if you have kids, theyâre interested. Reading into the directions, this is a Kombucha Starter kit. As in the Scoby is making it first run, and its first Kombucha. That said, the directions stated that in 30 days after starting the Scoby is ready to make its first new (useable) batch. It does say that its very first batch can be consumable in 30 days, considering the Ph is right. All that said, I am reviewing the starting process.Edit about a month later 1/25/24, to add that the starter worked flawlessly. As it was stated, this is a starter kit. You can taste this starter, even have a big glass full, and can tell that it is working. Iâm now taking half of what was made, and the Scoby, and starting the first official batch. Hopefully in another month or so, another batch will be done and I will update again.
