I followed the instructions using just Kirkland 100% honey from Costco, and a jug of spring water. After 6 weeks it came out around 12% abv, dry, very clear, and surprising smooth. All the equipment is high quality. My only gripe is, though optional, I wish it came with a hydrometer so you can confirm when fermentation is done.For the price I highly recommend if you’re just getting started with home brewing!

Easy to understand quick starter – Great gift idea
This was a really easy way to get into fermenting and making homemade mead or wine.Videos available made it even easier, and after making my first batch I bought a bunch of other stuff to keep making more. You might want to pick up an auto-siphon to make bottling simple, but everything is in the kit except the honey required to make your first batch.

All items are of good quality, with instructions, etc. I can’t say anything about the mead because I used the bottle to make wine from cherries.

Arrived damaged or I’d have given it 5 stars (See Update)
The instructions are well written and easy to understand and it comes with everything you need. I saw a video that recommended this kit for beginners and I’m impressed with the quality. The only negative was that the airlock arrived with a crack. It still holds water but I was hoping to get multiple uses out of this kit.UPDATE: Kyle, the founder of Craft a Brew reached out to me directly and asked if I was the person who gave the review about the cracked airlock because he could only see the first name on the review. When I said I was, he apologized and promptly shipped me a replacement. I can’t say enough about this outstanding customer service! To track me down and offer a replacement was above and beyond. Most sellers would have been happy with the 4 star review but Kyle went out of the way to provide 5 star service and earned a life long customer in the process

Good starter kit – Instructions seem fun but overwrought
Just to be upfront: my first batch sucked – horribly – and I did follow the instructions. My second is great though. But I used different instructions for it (found on brighthelm dot org) that were much less interactive. The only thing I bought for my second try was more sanitizer, more yeast, an auto siphon (about $15), and a large stock pot ($15 from Wal-Mart if you don’t already have one in the kitchen).I would suggest adding the yeast and sanitizer for a 2nd batch to the kit for ease of use.Here’s what I think someone should be aware of to make this a much better experience:- The internet is rife with how to guides on this topic, if you’re ever in doubt or want to make it better- An auto siphon will make your life easier, but not dramatically- When the 4 weeks are up, it may not be done fermenting yet (my first batch failed here)- You can use a sanitized 1 gallon pitcher to hold your brew while you clean/sanitize the demijohn, before placing it back to see if it carries on fermenting after the first 4 weeks- Retail honeys can taste funny and/or bad – but there are ways to fix that, before you start the fermentation

Fun Hobby!
As advertised, this kit is a fun and easy way to get into fermenting. The equipment is reusable, so I definitely plan on trying something new after I bottle my first batch of mead in a few weeks. My only criticism is that the airlock that they provided was way more fragile than it should have been, as it cracked up upon me delicately putting it into my carboy, so I had to Frankenstein it up with scotch tape to make it stop leaking, but that did the trick. In any case, I highly recommend giving this a try!

Easy for beginners!
Pros- Easy to use, detailed video demonstrations, great customer support!Cons- difficult to follow guide.This mead making kit is awesome! I am super excited to taste my mead tomorrow. This is a great gift for anyone who is looking to purpose a father or husband or anyone really. I had such a great time throwing all the ingredients into this jug and making some mead! All of the materials were professionally boxed and the all the parts were included as listed. No issues! My only complaint is that the written instructions provided do not do the bust job at explaining how to make the mead. I got confused on a degas step and ended up painting my ceiling and counters brown from a massive foaming error. Fortunately the company has a video with detailed steps and this was much easier to follow. Turns out I didnât degas the mead enough and I dropped a little too much nutrient at one time. Overall, I think this is going to be a fun new hobby!!
