    Top premium hand grinder
The Commadante is the gold standard coffee grinder for good reason. It is solid, grinds perfectly, and you can taste the difference in the final brew!If you have the means and are really into coffee, this is a must have grinder. Many recipes call for a specific grind setting on the Commadante and once you use it, you will know why.

    Great hand grinder
I went out on a limb in a way and decided to try this one based on the online overwhelmingly good reviews of it. And I have to say, the good reviews are right.First of all made in Germany so you know it’s quality. I do pour over and chemex now which take different grinds and it can give me very good coffee either way. It feels very solid, no play, and it’s a little arm work to get your coffee ground, but you knew that going in.This will probably outlast me. If you are going to grind in advance I recommend the brown colored jars you can get for it.Also I recommend the “Big Joe” handle I believe it’s called – it makes it a bit easier to grind, and I also recommend the “Red clix” for it as it gives you a lot finer range. They recommend it for espresso but honestly you can use it with any type of brew to get optimal taste. But you have to be comfortable in taking it apart and installing it.I can’t think of anything else I would have asked for with this and highly recommend it.

    Excellent quality
The accuracy and build of this grinder provides the value I’m looking for paying the extra price. It has made my coffee experience more enjoyable. I also bought a clip on motor to automate the grinder for larger grams needed like in the french press. Very happy with it all.

Gold Standard Grinder for a Reason
None of the online reviews I see ever debate whether or not the C40 is a good grinder. The discussions always revolve around whether it’s worth the price considering all the current competition out there. Other grinders (1zpresso lineup) might have comparable or better build quality and cool features like external grind adjustment, but as far as pure grind quality goes, no one can argue against the fact that the Commandante C40 is an excellent grinder and the gold standard for a reason.I do also own a 1zpresso ZP6, which I really like. The external grind adjustment is cool but the tradeoff is that you need to “re-calibrate” the grinder after disassembling and cleaning, something you don’t need to do with the C40, and that is some hassle saved. Also it’s difficult for me to say whether the C40 and the ZP6 grinds coffee better – they’re just “different”.Full disclosure – I only brew pour over (Hario v60 and Switch). No espresso.

    This grinder is fantastic!
The grind quality is leaps and bounds above my previous grinder. I was hesitant to buy it at first because of the price tag but it produces remarkably consistent grind size and it takes less effort to crank than I though it would.

A Classic For a Reason. Buy Quality, Buy Once.
Before getting this grinder, I tried one of those “other” brands of coffee handgrinders that are very popular online. It was a huge disappointment to me, because out of the box it was non-functional. I managed to get it working but was thoroughly pissed off at the horrible ergonomics and user experience. I returned it as soon as I could.I decided to stop messing around and went for the proven classic. There are lots of opinions on this grinder, including many from people that have never used one.Sometimes simpler is better and that is the case here IMHO. The grinder is a joy to use, easy to clean, and the settings are very simple and repeatable. I don’t have to worry about accidentally knocking off the catch up and making a mess with expensive ground coffee – everything stays put where it needs to be.A lot of people make a huge deal about the internal grind adjustment wheel. Unless you are making 20 different coffee drinks, brewed 20 different ways, and using 20 different types of beans per day, it’s an overblown complaint.I mainly do pourovers now and my grind settings stay in a narrow range most of the time. That’s 20-30 clicks depending on different factors. About once every two weeks I will make cold brew which works best on a setting of 40-45 clicks IME.If you’re wondering about the catch up, the grinder actually came with two cups – one plastic and one glass. I typically use the glass one for measuring out beans and prefer to use the plastic one on the grinder itself.Re: the price, my advice is to shop around. Note that the metal and wood veneer versions of this grinder go for different prices. You may also be able to get a small discount sometimes if you shop around and find a retailer offering a coupon.Note that Comandante offers a less expensive grinder called the X25 Trailmaster. It is lighter and meant to be portable for camping and such. The capacity of that grinder is around 28g of coffee whereas the C40 can hold around 40g or sometimes more, depending on the bean type. Since most pourover recipes involve using between 15-20g of coffee, either grinder should work fine for making one cup of coffee at a time.

This is an excellent coffee grinder which I have used for a V60, Moka Pot and a French Press. It grinds well and is enjoyable to use, although it might not be suitable for people with small hands. It is expensive but if you enjoy the experience of grinding coffee manually then I would highly recommend it.
