Customers say

Customers appreciate the leakproof lid and design of the drinking cup. They find it waterproof when the lid is closed, with a locked seal. However, some find the size too large, with only 18oz fitting in the cup before liquid overflows.

I replaced my old Camelbak Horizon with this!
I have a few Camelbak products, ranging from hydration packs to drinkware, and I love them all.. This Camelbak Thrive is no different. A couple things to note that are different from my Horizon tumblers, the bottom of the cup still has the rubber, which I was critical of in my Horizon Camelbak review. However, they adjusted the diameter of the base of the cup to be a little bigger and less wobbly, which is a very welcome upgrade and now complements the rubber on the bottom to keep the cup in place. One of the main differences is the lid. Its quite a bit larger and more robust than the standard Camelbak lid, and I wasn’t sure how I initially felt about it. After using the Thrive for a couple months, I really like the lids waterproof ability when the lid is closed. The lid locking mechanism feels solid and durable like it wont break any time soon. The cup itself is a little thicker due to the wider base as well.. Overall, very impressed with the Camelbak Thrive and it is a worthy addition to my Camelbak stable. I got the Desert Sunrise color, which looks a little girly.. (color is pretty accurate in pictures) but I don’t mind, it goes with me most places. Would recommend this new style, 5/5.

    Leakproof!
Exactly what I was looking for. Has a twist top and a push to slide closed which both provide a locked seal. Can shake and mix my powder and liquid with no issues.

    Favorite Tumbler
This tumbler keeps drinks hot or cold as expected. What I really like about it is the tumbler is leakproof and it fits nicely in your hand. This is the 20 oz. For me, the 30oz tumbler was too big and top heavy. As long as the lid is screwed on and opening is closed, it does not leak if it is knocked over. Very happy with this one!

    A swing . . . and a bunt
Really wanted to like this, but for my purposes, a swing and well, not a miss, but not out of the park, for sure. First, my use of it, because that’s where some of the shortcomings (IMO) are. I don’t use this as a commuter type cup, I use it in my office. I drink tea, and I tend to sip it during the day and “nurse” one cup from morning to mid afternoon. My comparison is a trusty Yeti 24 oz mug w/handle. Nothing wrong w/it – it’ll keep things reasonably warm from around 0800 to 1400 maybe 1500. By that time it’s seriously lukewarm and cooling fast. But I don’t “hypermile” it – I leave the spout open, so that surely shortens the warm time. Was hoping this would stretch it a bit longer, but it doesn’t. I’d say the insulation is on par w/the Yeti.Pros:*Non-inferior to Yeti in terms of heat retention.*Wide mouth = easy to clean THE TUMBLER. More in “cons” about the CAP. I can easily get my (XL glove size) hand in it to clean it – no bottle brush needed. Big pro.*”Padded” bottom. Doesn’t “clank” on my desk when I put it down. Yeti – ARE YOU LISTENING TO THIS?*Nice finish. I got the green, reminds me of Stanley. Though I prefer stainless (doesn’t chip, wear) this is very nice.*Good capacity. YMMV, but this holds enough to get me through a good part of the work day on one mug of tea.*Spill/leak proof. A definite pro for commuters, so thought I’d mention it.*Fits in at least our Ford & Nissan cup holders; I imagine it fits others; again for commuters a real pro. Doesn’t mean much for my use, though. And in part it does this because it doesn’t have a handle. Pro/con depending on your use!CONS:*No handle! I didn’t think I’d miss this (Camelbak makes one w/handle, but in a larger and smaller capacity, which for me didn’t work; this 20-24 oz size fits my personal needs) but for my use in an office I find that I really do miss it. This tumbler is indeed a “handful” in its external size. If you have small hands (remember I wear an XL glove, as above!) it’s going to be a stretch for your fingers!*Now, my biggest (personal) con, and this affects however one uses it, desk or commuting. The CAP. Personally, I’m finding that I honestly can’t stand it. Why? 1. TOO COMPLEX IN CONSTRUCTION! The underside has DEEP, NARROW (= a pain to clean) grooves molded into the plastic (which support the closure mechanism). Remember I said that I don’t need a brush to wash the tumbler? You SERIOUSLY need a SMALL (like for a drinking straw size) brush to get into these things. Kills the convenience. Yeti’s magnetic slide cover is genius (BUT – in total honesty, it is NOT leakproof like this one is), at least for static desk/office use. For a commuter, this is probably a good trade, but the cleaning issue remains. 2. The slider mechanism is STIFF. Seriously stiff. Again, great for commuter, but it does NOT encourage one to slide it closed at a desk to maintain the heat. 3. Because it’s so stiff, you absolutely have to use TWO HANDS to open/close it. Commuting? You’ll find that awkward, to say the least (hands on the wheel!) if you’re driving. If you’re on a commuter train/bus, no biggie. 4. The slider mechanism. Again, COMPLEX by far. It’s 2 pieces. To clean (gosh, that pesky need to CLEAN the thing!) properly, you need to align the bottom part with 4 slots in the clear plastic, then PULL HARD, straight out/away from the cover, to separate the two pieces. Now you can clean those 2 pieces and the plastic cap tracks that they run in. Then put it all back together. Somehow, since this stuff is all plastic, I can see the part that holds them together either breaking or WEARING such that they don’t fit together too well as time goes on. And it looks like you have to buy an entire replacement cover, not just those 2 pieces. 5. The top piece of the closure slider – the bottom of it has tiny GROOVES in it (the black bottom piece has smooth surfaces other than the finger hold that you pull to separate the pieces). Again, a real PAIN to clean properly!*Screwing on the cover – you need a good grip. To make it leakproof, there’s of course a gasket and when you “cinch it down” there’s some definite resistance. Consider your grip and strength. I can do it but you definitely KNOW you’re twisting against resistance as the rubber gasket clamps down to the steel rim to seal it. Just be aware . . .***Now my BIGGEST issue w/the cap. When it’s full, it’s not a big problem; the liquid is right there near your lips/mouth. But what I’ve found is that as I empty it during the day, and have to TIP IT FURTHER to get the liquid to the opening, it seems to me (and I think someone else mentioned this) that the opening is TOO WIDE, and if you look closely at the picture there’s a lip in the plastic, too. What I’ve found is that when I tip it, too much liquid comes out, and can then pool in that plastic lip and it’s WAY too easy to have it spill outside of my mouth and down my face! OK, lest anyone want to be “unpleasant” about it, I’ve been drinking out of “big people cups” for more than 60 years now and in the company of others w/o making a mess; I think I know how to do it properly. The fact that it “allows” this, IMO, is a design issue. Again, YMMV as w/all of this, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.Whew. That’s my honest opinion of it (and I paid full price for it, no “freebie” or reduced price for a review. You don’t have to agree with me on any particular pro or con, just wanted others to be aware of my honest observations given with best intentions to help others. If Camelbak could come up with a better system for the cover and slider, they’d have (IMO) a winner. But any of my cons might be pros in your situation, particularly if you’re a commuter and need true leak-proof performance. But if you’re like me, leaving it at the office (where I don’t want to have to fiddle with brushes to clean it well every morning, difficult to open sliders, difficult to screw on covers and an orifice design that promotes spilling liquid down your face or on your clothes, you may want to think again. Camelbak, keep trying! Improve that cover!

    Not 20oz
The product design is excellent. Leak Proof and the lid easily unassembled to wash.Unfortunately, after measuring 20oz and filling the tumbler, only 18oz fits in the cup before the liquid overfills when you twist the cap on. The lid shape on top also adds additional unnecessary height. It’s bigger than my other 20oz timbers.

Like all CamelBak stuff this travel mug is top quality. 100% leak proof. Has some weight to it so you know it’s nice thick gauge steel and unlike another review I read it holds 20oz with the lid on. Really happy with it.

I’ve used Camelbak water bottles for decades,as inspite of the price they really do seem to make the best kit.Decided I needed a new mug for daily use as my last freebie was getting gross, hadn’t looked or bought a mug for quite a few years as so many are rubbish and impossible to clean…but this one from Camelbak the lid totally comes apart :)No more smeg 😉

Bought this for my husband. Excellent design, sleek and robust. Doesn’t leak, and keeps fluids hot or cold for a long period ( he takes it to golf and his coffee stayed warm enough to enjoy during his round). The shape works great to take in cup holders in our cars. Will be buying myself one in the next few weeks. Can really recommend highly
