Good tasting and good value for money
First , the taste. It wasn’t burnt. This is important with dark/French Roast. It was fairly strong, strong enough to add milk and still have lots of coffee taste. And I liked the flavor, which is meaningless until I tell you I also love New Orleans french roast coffee with chicory. And for those of you who know Pete’s coffee, I prefer Pete’s over Starbucks. Also, it wasn’t too acidic for me, but I think that is not something that you know until you drink it yourself.Second, the price is good, at least when I compare it with what I usually buy. (Coffee prices have increased significantly lately. You can compare it yourself to buying your go-to brand online. And there is the added benefit of your purchase of supporting Tails of Joy.The packaging is fine; they provide a well functioning small clip to seal the bag after opening . They advise keeping the beans in the freezer and grinding them frozen, which I certainly would do with a 2.5 lb bag. I haven’t tried that yet, but I don’t expect it would change the flavor as it hasn’t with other beans in the past. I usually don’t buy this much at once, but given the price savings, I will nowI couldn’t find out exactly what beans they use, it would be nice if their website talked a bit more about that. But I won’t downgrade them for that. Given all this, I felt like it deserved 5*. And as long as you like french roast and want to try something new, I would buy it.

A Lot of Delicious Coffee for the Money
So this is 2lb of coffee for the price which I think is great. I actually bought a coffee grinder from Amazon to be able to grind this coffee because I didn’t already have one. I ground the coffee and brewed it on a stovetop percolator and I have to say this is a really great coffee with a bold and deep flavor profile. It is smooth, pairs well with other things like flavored creamers, and I think it rivals many other high priced coffees on the market. I would definitely buy this coffee again. Something small about it that surprised me was that I received a little metal, springloaded clip to close the coffee for when I’m storing it away in the freezer. Finally, the fact that some of the proceeds from this goes to helping animals is awesome because they need our help.

Good coffee
This is a very good coffee. They suggest using 2 tbsp per 8 oz of water where most other brands suggest 2 tbs per 6 oz which makes a bag go further. I use this as my evening coffee but nothing is better than Brooklyn French roast which is my wake up coffee.

A dark roast that reminds us of Pike’s Place
Coffee, much like beer, comes in many styles, colors and flavors. As such, I’ve included a side-by-side comparison of the style of coffee we have every morning from a local roaster (we normally get a Peruvian blend that’s full bodied, but decidedly medium as you can see). We enjoy our coffee in a french press, so that may also affect the flavor if you’re more of a filtered coffee drinker. We use a burr grinder paired with a kettle that brings the water to french press temp, just below boiling, but I don’t pre-warm the pot or anything too wild.To be honest, we are not a huge super-dark roast family, and the oily beans from roasting and darker aroma from the bag made me nervous, but the french press brew was better than I expected. =) It’s still not our preferred style, but it was better than I expected. My wife and I talked about it, and we agreed it’s similar to Pike’s Place (though I would argue a bit better than Pike’s) and Starbucks claims that to be a Medium roast. Also, the ties to pet rescue for the company are nice, though you’ve gotta like the coffee!In all, if you a very dark roast, we think you’ll enjoy this coffee. I’m between 4 and 5 stars, but the one knock down is purely based on our preference for flavor. But the packaging, freshness, and company all look great; I would give it 4.5 stars if they let us.
