The product arrived seemingly new, but also misaligned, probably from being crushed or deformed enough during transport to misalign the two tea halves. The press spring function to open the two halves still worked however. This means the two halves of the tea ball do not fit flush and tea leaves/leaf powder will escape into the cup or mug. This renders the product useless, and a simple stainless steel strainer held over a mug would be better. It’s not a great design, as there are no guide rails or slots to help align the two halves of the tea ball. Also it’s not a take-apart design to strip out (for thorough cleaning) the spring and rod out to wash like many other lovely bodum coffee press designs. Furthermore the two tea ball halves also do not sit against each other flush even when aligned. Thus, a clamping force is needed to press each half together to provide a confident closure of the tea ball. Good stainless steel material, interesting quick deploy mechanism, but extremely poor design from bodum this time. I do not recommend this product at all. I suggest purchasing a mechanismand hinge free, 100% stainless steel, fine mesh, deep strainer available from many others available on Amazon for less than half the price instead.
