This Amazon Basics Nicaraguan coffee is fantastic. The beans are not broken up. Much more affordable than the stores or other online coffee shops. My wife and I liked it so much we have it on auto order.

This coffee is the real deal. I’m a total coffee snob too. You open the bag and it’s a delicious, classic Central American coffee with a sweet, nuttiness. If I’m being super particular…the aroma of this roast is more of a 7 than a 5. Light to dark 1-10….I grind this up coarse by the half pound and make cold brew with it. Really good stuff. The Central American origin comes right out of it. Smooth, low acidity, sweet, almost dark chocolatey. I just ordered up another 3 pound bag of the single origin Amazon brand Colombian coffee to see how that goes too! I know finding reasonably priced single-origin African coffees has been hard recently but I’m waiting Amazon!

I have traveled to Central America several times per year for work, and fell in love with good local coffee from the Matagalpa region of Nicaragua. I usually bring a few pounds of whole beans back with me, but was looking for a easily accessible cost effective bean to fill in the gaps in my supply. While this is not quite as good, I have been pleased. If you are looking for a good, medium roast coffee with a smooth and slightly nutty taste, then give this a try. It’s not “Casa Cafe” but not bad.

My housemates were super impressed and thought I’d bought some extra fancy, expensive coffee.

I have been trying a new source for medium roast coffee beans to make my daily espresso which turns into a latte with steamed milk. Favs are Kona, Yirgacheffee from Ethiopia, Tarazzu from Costa Rica and now trying Nicaraugan beans. They are reputed to be grown in volcanic soil and have “chocolate overtones.” I tried one pound bags and ground enough to use the first time today.the early verdict? Rate 1.5 out of 5 stars which is being generous. It has a somewhat strong metallic smell and taste and no hint of chocolate. I ended up adding honey to drink the latte. It sounds a lot like marketing at work on the reviews. I will try it in my Moka pot which tends to smooth coffees out some versus pressure espresso machine but do not plan to buy Nicaraugan beans ever again. It did not smell like coffee beans when I opened the vacuum bag. Just my opinion but for my tastes that is what counts.

These beans are not medium roast as labelled, they are dark roast and oily. I used them in my automatic espresso machine and they clog up the grinder. Taste is good but if you’re looking for a medium roast bean, I would avoid these.

I am going to review this bean as it tastes by brewing method to try to get the different flavors profiles. For the most part I drink my drinks with heavy cream (sometimes called double cream). The reasoning for this is I want the fat in the cream to hold the flavor of the coffee on my tongue long. As a side effects it does mellow out the acidity of the bean. I coming off of a Guatemala roast to order bean (boca java Guatemalan adventure) so that’s what I been having the past week.As an caffè crema (expresso shot and heavy cream) :Taste mild acidity, complex, medium body, chocolate. As an americano with heavy cream:Taste comes out to be low acidity, juice, a well rounded body, hints of chocolate.Beans where not oily which is to be expected from not being a dark roast.I for the most part the description of the coffee of juice, complex, and notes of chocolate are accurate depending on brewing method used. I will give a try as a poor over method later and update.Package has experation date though sadly no roast date added. You can see some of the images attached to see bean, packaging, and crema.
