Me gusta mucho el diseño y que es muy pequeño, pero tarde tanto en moler el cafe para 4 tazas, tengo artritis y termine muy adolorida de las manos.

Not impressed with the quality of the grinder. The grind adjuster is constantly cross threading, it doesn’t hold its position and even at the biggest grind, it’s extremely slow compared to my other grinders.

When we get power failures in our area, which we are prone to have seasons of, the basics are important to prepare for. I thought I was all set for coffee, then I realized- we only had one grinder and I only drink decaf. I got this one to make up for the differenceWHAT IS THIS LIKE?This grinder comes in two parts. There is the top which sits inside the area where you put the beans. That has the turn handle on it. Then there is the bottom. On the bottom is the grinding burrs and the little cup for the ground coffee.HOW EASY IS THIS TO USE?This is not hard to use. You have to have the grinder propper between your legs or in your hands perhaps grippy gloves if you have a weak grip, and then turn the handle.HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO FILL?This did not take too long to fill the cup. I am using this only for me, and for one pot of decaf pour over coffee. I found that it only took about five minutes if you turn it robustly. You will have to shake the beans into place now and then. You will think it is empty but they need to be repositioned.IS THE COFFEE GOOD?I have to tell you, the lowest being 1 and the highest setting being 6, when I set this on 2 1/2 setting, the coffee I got from this was finer and more even than the espresso setting on my really nice electric grinder. I was shocked at how fine, even and great tasting it was.CLEANING?If you want to clean this, you either wipe it out, or run some rice through it which will help absorb the oils. Then the first load of coffee might have some rice in it, but if you are doing pour over, that might not be a bad thing.THE BOTTOM LINEThis coffee grinder is more for a pot of pour over coffee than it is for high volume coffee you will make with a coffee machine. It makes enough for a nice 30oz pot of pour over coffee and it grinds evenly and smoothly. If you put some muscle into it, a container can be full in about five minutes.MY RATINGFIVE STARS. This is much better than I expected and for a personal pot of pour over decaf while the rest of the family has regular, this is a wonderful tool to have on hand. Not only during power failures, but out in my shed, or while away from electricity if I want fresh coffee, it helps too.

Many years ago, when I lived in London in the days when it was hard to get coffee in the bean except at specialty shops, my then-boyfriend had a manual coffee grinder–the wooden kind with a large iron crank and drawer underneath. I’d buy the beans and he’d grind them.Other than that, I’ve always used an electric grinder and have been happy enough. But I live in an area where the power company will cut the electricity if it’s windy. So making a cup of coffee without power is impossible.I was intrigued by this grinder because it solved the problem of being unable to grind coffee beans without power. (I still have to find a neighbor with a gas stove to boil water, as mine is electric, ugh.)This is a very solid, well-build grinder, but know up front that it’s very small. IOW, the receptacle for the ground coffee is only big enough to hold coffee for the large mug I drink most days. If you want to make a full pot, you’ll be at the grinding for quite a while. Because of its limited capacity, I’d say that its best use is if you like to go camping or if you only make a cup or two at a time. The other revelation was how much work it is grinding even that small amount of coffee! While the mechanism seems strong and the blades sharp, beans and bean fragments can be easily left in the milling part unless you keep shaking the whole unit to dislodge them and get them ground. There’s an adjustment that allows your grind to be coarser or finer, but it took me a bit of experimenting since the instructions don’t indicate if 1 is fine or coarse–they only say that it comes set on coarse, and if, like me, you didn’t notice where it was before you used it, you won’t have any frame of reference. All in all, this is a very nice unit, as long as you don’t need large capacity and don’t mind working to get your coffee ground.

The grinder itself is quite impressive. The handle doesn’t kill my hands too bad compared with some other manual grinders, and I like that you can fit a lot of beans.I just wish it was easier to clean. Lots of manual grinders can be completely taken apart, including the grinders, but the only things you can take apart with the AdHoc grinder is the bottom container, dial, and handle. This makes it difficult to clean the grinders, and I honestly found the instructions to grind rice to clean it a bit perplexing, because why should I have to waste rice like that? If everything was removable, I could just easily use an espresso brush to clean it better.I also could not tell the difference between the settings. I tried every number on the dial and the grounds were the same consistency (really fine). I wish the instructions had a list of what each number setting is best for the method of brewing one is trying to do, but I am ok with the fine grounds it produces..Overall, it’s one of the better manual grinders I’ve tried, but they need to make it easier to clean.

I bought this for my camper van. Sure I could buy ground coffee, but the grind wouldn’t be fine enough for my aero press. It does require a strong arm and wrist, but I can grind out three scoops worth by the time the water is done heating up. It’s very sturdy and doesn’t make a big mess. I am using a pretty dark grind (which has a high oil content) which helps keep the ground coffee in one place vs. flying everywhere. That said, I would be careful transferring the ground coffee if it’s windy out. I haven’t cleaned it yet but it’s straightforward with white rice.
