Product Description

At Gobena, we are passionate that everyone can Go Make a Difference.
One way to do this is by drinking GREAT coffee for a GREAT cause. Our coffee beans are purchased fresh and in season from the farmer. For example, when our Colombian partner harvests their coffee and finishes the drying process, we import the dried green coffee beans as soon as possible. Once the beans arrive, we small batch roast them. When we say fresh, we mean fresh.
We also believe that beans are roasted to bring out their original flavor. Each bean has different flavor notes and requires different roast temperatures and times. Roasting in small batches allows us to roast each bean to its full potential! Is the coffee your currently drinking over roasted? Probably so. Most roasters tend to over roast because they are using old, out of season beans. That’s why your coffee tastes burnt.

Quality Beans Fresh Roasted
Our coffee is roasted on a Joper Roaster. Manufactured in Canelas, Portugal, Joper has been manufacturing roasters since 1962 and is proud to combine the genuine quality of the European Old World with the most recent technology. Joper symbolises performance, quality and value, giving the roasters, like Gobena, a competitive advantage. All of our coffee is roasted and packed the same day.

100% Pledge
100% of Gobena’s profit goes to helping orphaned and vulnerable children throughout the world. Gobena partners with Lifesong for Orphans to work with at risk children and young adults.

Our Beginning
In the summer of 2007 in Ethiopia, Gobena, an elderly farmer, found and rescued a baby girl when she was abandoned near his home. For more than four weeks, Gobena and his wife tried to care for this newborn as best they could, but soon realized she needed more than they could offer. They carried her 5 miles to town where she was given food and shelter. This baby girl, named Eva, was adopted by a loving family from Illinois. This act of love inspired the adoptive family to start Gobena Coffee where 100% of the net profits are given to Lifesong for Orphans. Pictured above are Gobena, his wife Mulunesh and the adoptive family.

Good coffee for espresso, grinds well
It’s hard to find beans that grind well for espresso. Luckily this worked well for us and instead of buying illy, we’re getting fair trade/ organic/ and hopefully making a positive impact on the world.

Smooth medium roast coffee
I was a bit nervous to commit to a 5 pound bag of coffee without trying a smaller bit first, but I also wanted to spend a little less by buying it in bulk. Luckily, Iâm really enjoying the organic Ethiopian roast! I perceive it as more of a medium roast with a little lean towards dark, but it ends up brewing really smooth coffee without being thin on flavor. Everything was packaged well, and it hits a good price point for organic fair-trade coffee. I would happily purchase this again, glad I took the risk!

You get what you pay for in coffee beans, and these seem good!
Had high hopes for this coffee based on the 4 five star reviews. What I got was a bag of coffee beans that looked really good, not dried out yet a little oily. Then I ground them an brewed a cup using the drip method. What I got was a brew that had a taste of muskiness to it. Best I can relate is it tasted like I had cleaned the cup with Pinesol and had not rinsed it out before brewing the coffee. Unfortunately, the cup was clean, and after at least a dozen other attempts, each brewing still had a off putting chemical taste to them. Just threw away the beans and ordered a more expensive brand I have used for years. Moral of the story is that you do get what you pay for. I recommend you steer clear of this one!My apologies, the strange taste was still present when I used the new coffee, and I found that the culprit was the creamer I was using. The stuff comes in a giant size and regular size and I had been refilling the small one with the large for months. Should have cleaned out the bottle before refilling. When I smelled it today, it was the strange smell I thought was from the coffee. So, giving the coffee the 5 star rating based on the quality of the beans.

Excellent value and environmentally conscious company.
This coffee has very good flavor, it’s a good value, and it’s Fair Trade which is very important to me. Plus the large size means I don’t have to order so often, saving cardboard. Yeah, you can tell I’m a green freak!

Disappointed
I was really looking forward to try this coffee upon reading the positive reviews I decided to give it a try. It arrived on time from Amazon, packing was nice, however while I opened the bag there was no smell of coffee whatsoever, don’t know why couldn’t be way past their freshness! So I grind and try to pull an espresso (profitec 600). Unfortunately there was no crema nor the smell of fresh brewed coffee, the taste was off, don’t know why, the beans look great but the doesn’t taste good ð©

Good product, bad Amazon delivery
Updated: The product was delivered to the wrong house, Amazon’s fault, not the company’s. 1 star removed for bad delivery for an otherwise fantastic product.

Try it, you wonât be disappointed!
Let me start by saying that I am a coffee snob. I am picky and look for many things. Plus one: Beans arrived in quality packing that is environmentally friendly. Plus two: beans smelled super fresh and were nice and oily when package was opened. Plus three: coffee was full of wonderful flavor and aroma when brewed. Plus four: came with a little note and feel good story about the good works they do. I highly recommend and will buy this coffee exclusively going forward.
