Great tamper but a bit pricey
Summary — great build quality, great materials, some design quirks, price a little highThis is a great tamper that is just a bit on the high end of price in my opinion. Before getting this depth control tamper I was using a similar tamper from Decent Espresso which is one of the highest end brands when it comes to epresso gadgets, I would say the performance between the two is very similar. I would say that I tend to prefer the Decent tamper over this one just because of the overall feel in hand, this one is pretty high quality as well but there are a few design quirks that I don’t like.For starters I don’t think the tamping depth adjustment is really necessary, you’re most likely going to be using the same one or two baskets with your home espresso set up for months or even years at a time and you’re not going to really have to change tamping depth. If it was fixed depth you can just adjust your grind size and achieve a good espresso shot anyway without changing the depth you tamp. Another quirk is the flange on the tamper that limits the tamping depth (highlighted with the red arrow in my picture) I think that flange could just be reduced to basically the size of the collar on the component that moves up and down the shaft to limit the tamping depth and that would make for a much sleeker design. In my opinion the flange is just awkward to grab and doesn’t let you rest your hand comfortable on the tamper.

This did not work for my Breville express.I must have read incorrectly. The press is really nice quality though. Not for me though.

Doesn’t seem good for varying setups
This tamper is good looking and seems well made. It might be perfect for a singular, already dialed-in espresso process. But the way the tamper works doesn’t allow for easy experimentation or changes. What I mean is, the tamper rests on the edge of the portafilter and pushes in a predetermined amount (adjustable depth). This allows for a consistent tamp – IF the beans/grind/portafilter are all constant and you adjust it to the right depth. You have no “feel” for how hard you’re tamping. Also, this tamper doesn’t fit through the attachable funnel that you might have gotten as part of the “tamping station”. This defeats the purpose of the funnel as you can’t tamp down the pile of grinds before removing the funnel. So I need to use a different tamper. So why do I have this one? It looks good as part of the set at least 🙂

Good tamper
Iâve been using this tamper for a few weeks now, and overall, Iâm impressed with the quality. It is very aesthetically pleasing, and it fits perfect with the portafilter. It feels solid in hand, and the materials seem durable. The only downside Iâve noticed is that the coffee grounds tend to stick to the base, taking a tiny bit away from the coffee puck and making it slightly (but still noticeably) less even. I usually have to tap it or wipe it off between uses which wastes a tiny bit of espresso grounds and is easier to get slightly messy. Itâs a minor inconvenience, but still worth mentioning. Despite that, the tamper does its job well, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, well-made espresso tamper.

Exquisite workmanship and simple design
I love a great cappuccino and mostly any frothy, creamy drink made with espresso. I have a Krups Silver Art espresso maker and it makes amazing espresso with a simplified design. However, the last few times I’ve made espresso, the grinds have been stuck to the machine after removing the portafilter. I did some research and found I needed a tamper. This one is magnificent! The handle is carved, polished wood and the tamper part is polished stainless steel. It matches my Krups! I made an espresso using Lavazza and tamped it down tightly with the tamper. It was the best espresso I’ve had in years! It’s interesting how a simple act such as tamping makes such a difference to the quality and flavor of espresso. You won’t be disappointed with this beautiful tamper. It is excellent quality and can be displayed proudly with the rest of your espresso accoutrements.

I got this as it matched some other accessories we’d gotten and, since we use our espresso machine at least once a day, it looks nice when everything that’s out matches. It works well and is very nicely made.

The craftsmanship on this thing is fantastic Unfortunately, mine is fifty one millimeters. And I got the wrong size. But that being said, I wish the one I did get was half as nice as this one. This is a beautiful, beautiful tamping set.

Nice but not as functional as it should.
This is a nice tamper, although it is not as functional as it should. It fitted the 54 millimeter portafilter, is adjustable, and I was able to make it function, and when I say function, is to make the spring function work. It is very hard to press but if you make it work it will do the job. For the previously mentioned I believe it is high priced.
