Does the job but for the money it would have been nice to have a tamper on the other side. It isnât that precise so you get a lot of grounds up along the sides. You need to clean it often for that reason. The adjustment for depth is precise and holds well. Remains stain and rust free. I would recommend this product if there is nothing better on offer.

Hands down the best tamper I have ever owned and the best priced available!
I was skeptical it would be decent because of the price. And it turns out it is not, it is incredible! I know, I know, how great can it be when it is just a coffee tamper but this piece is solid, weighty machined steel coming in at almost 1lb. 3 piece construction allows you to set the depth for how much coffee you like to add and spin the top ring down to lock it into place. You get a perfectly tamped coffee every single time singe it actually sits on the rim of the portafilter and the shiny piece sits inside. After you fill the basket just press this in and turn a little clockwise and done. So can we talk about the fact that this is the CHEAPEST cost wise espresso tamper available anywhere, at least anywhere that I have looked. And for the cost the fact that what you are getting is such high quality! Easily unscrews for cleaning, though I just dust mine off. Fits perfectly in the hand and just takes seconds to adjustand unless switching baskets you don’t need to adjust it or mess with it at all after that. I bought this for a Starbucks Barista machine, they all have 53mm baskets. Given the build quality of this thing I am certain it could be a long lived family heirloom.

Great product!!
Excellent leveller and distributer. Works excellent, easy to use and configure the desired highet.The only downside that gives it 4 stars and not 5 is tha fact its too slim and ismoving inside the 54mm basket for the bes870xl machine that it was advertised to fit.

EASY & EFFECTIVE, even when your still SLEEPY !! Lol
For years I have used Stock/Stanard Tamper that came with toy Expresso Machine….. they were OK, but to often I had to redo the grounds etc., too much, or to lopsided in the port a filter. BOOM, I saw this one here on Amazon, and with a REASONABLE price tag! I haven’t look back sense. Once you adjust it, your DONE !!!! I like the fact no matter how much pressure you apply, it’s going to STOP in the SAM PLACE every time!!!! and it does a Great job SMOOTHING out the top layer of Grounds each and every time!!! I’m not always 1005 awake when I make my Expresso in the A.M., therefore, I need all the help I can get,,,,,, Thanks to this item…. I can get a few more winks…. while making my Expresso! Don’t PAY the LARGER PRICES for the same thing!!! This has a high QUALITY WEIGHT To IT, and is MADE to a Tight Specification Standard ….. SAVE your Money this will do the TRICK ! You will gain nothing by PAYING more for those others ones, that a WAY OVERPRICED !

High quality, fits Breville Barista Express perfectly.
Like the other reviewer, I delayed ordering this because there were no reviews. Iâm glad I did. This thing is quality all the way. The weight is much heavier than expected (in a good way). The weight is 14.7 ounces according to my scale. There were no instructions but the adjustment is very easy. Just unscrew the two black rings a bit to loosen the stainless leveler. Then screw it to precisely the height you need. Then retighten the two black rings. This makes it easy to get exactly the adjustment you need.I am using this with a Breville Barista Express which has the 54mm portafilter. This is 53mm, which is exactly the right size. I use with a 53mm funnel ring that I bought here, and the fit is perfect. So my process is as follows:- Warm machine and run a shot of water through- Weigh out 18 grams of fresh locally roasted beans into a plastic cup I use for this purpose.- Put the beans into the hopper of the Barista Express grinder and grind into the plastic cup- Put the funnel onto the portafilter (using the single wall non-pressurized double shot basket)- Pour the coffee as evenly as I can into the portafilter. It will overflow but the funnel prevent it from falling out.- Hold down funnel and knock portafilter a bit to distribute coffee out of the mountain shape- Put my new leveler / distributor on the grounds, leaving the funnel in place- Turn a few times in each direction- Remove distributor and funnel, and tamp down using Barista Express tamper using four fingers, to keep it even, until it stops moving down (this gets natural over time)- Run double shot using manual mode (hold down button for prefusion about 7-9 seconds until I get a certain sound, then weigh output and stop at dialed in weight while running a stop watch). Typical double shot takes 35-40 secs from beginning of button press (including prefusion).The espresso is noticeably improved in both even appearance and depth of taste from the use of the distribution tool. It is 100% worth it and a bargain really. And BTW the shots I am able to pull with this machine are often superior to what I get from the majority of third wave high-quality espresso bars.

I have owned my Breville Expresso machine for six years and didn’t think I needed any other accessories, but I wanted to level up my coffee game and went deep down a rabbit hole of coffee making. This distributor has honestly made a noticeable difference in the quality of the shots I can pull. After measuring my coffee using a dosing cup and putting it into the portafilter, this distributor allows for genuinely even distribution and pressure of the grinds in the basket. Without it, you’re tamping the grinds but can have more and less compaction, and when you pull the shot, the pressurized water will find the path of least resistance and lead to a bitter taste. I’d recommend using a needle wisk to loosen the grinds first and then using this distributor to evenly distribute the grinds in the basket before tamping them down. When you first get this distributor, you’ll have to calibrate the height to your portafilter, but that’s quick and just a matter of loosening the top and adjusting the bottom part. This review is long enough but let’s finish with the build quality. The base is beautifully machined and polished; the unit is quite heavy and feels solid. The top part is also precision machined and has a nice matte black finish; I am thrilled with this distributor! 5 stars all around except for the ease of cleaning since grinds seem to get stuck between the lip and base, but they clean up fairly quickly, not a big issue at all.
