Mocha Java is a historic blend type that has evolved over the last two centuries, inspiring many iterations and interpretations depending on the taste of the roaster. We take a slightly different approach to our Fair Trade and Organic certified version combining a pair of floral, fruit-forward coffees from Ethiopia with a full-bodied coffee from Sumatra. Together these coffees create a complex and smooth blend with just the right amount of fruit presence. All of the component coffees are certified organic and Fair Trade.

Equator MJB is my go to coffee – no other MJ I’ve purchased or tried to roast myself even comes close. Tastes amazing even with milk and sugar, where most other coffees just wind up tasting generic.

Fruity!
I used to live near a few Equator cafes and I miss them terribly (especially the gluten-free waffles at a couple of them). So, when I saw this online, I thought I’d buy a bit of coffee joy from my past. It’s very good coffee, but the ‘nose’ is SO fruity – unexpected for a mocha for me (FYI, a ‘mocha’ bean has no chocolate in it). It does remind me of some very fruity chocolates though. I wasn’t sure I’d like such a fruity coffee, but it’s lovely, lively, smooth, and not bitter. I miss you Equator folks! Wish I still lived near any of your shops.

Must buy direct to guarantee fresh roast
Equator coffee is delicious. The roasts are smooth and always enjoyable. Unfortunately unless you purchase directly from Equator or in person at any store, you risk getting something that could be months old. Multiple times the beans sent to me have a âRoasted onâ date that is unreasonably old. This time I got two bags stamped 06/05/24 – it is 11/22/24, completely unacceptable. One month or so would be okay but now over five months. It still tastes somewhat okay but for the same price why not get something fresher?

I found my new favorite coffee!
I love the taste of Equator Mocha Java! Itâs very smooth, slightly sweet, and NOT at all bitter or burnt tasting like other coffee I sometimes drink. Itâs a much more substantial cup of coffee. I ground the beans and brewed it in my coffee press. I wasnât sure the best way to open the bag. It looks like there is a way to reseal but I just cut straight across with scissors and resealed with binder clips.This is the first time Iâve tried this brand, I usually buy Boydâs at my local market or Starbucks. Finding this on Amazon will save me trips to the store just for coffee, which I often end up doing.

The coffee had a very strong stale and smoky flavor. Didnât get any chocolate undertonesâ¦I did taste the two drastically different roasts that were combined in this that gave a very discombobulated flavor that just didnât mix well. I was disappointed, Folgers is better than this.
