  3. Customer Review

    Nice consistent grind
TL;DRIt’s a good grinder—easy to use, resulted in consistent grounds, and freed up my hands to do other stuff. But it stopped working mid-grind on day 3. No troubleshooting instructions, but customer support said that just plugging it in would fix it…and it did.—This died on the third day I had it. I’d used it at most twice a day. A major oversight is that in the instructions (both what’s in the package and what’s online, which is essentially the same thing and not expanded documentation), there’s not only nothing to show you how to turn the grinder off to check on things, but also nothing that helps you troubleshoot any issues that might arise.I wrote to customer support and they got back 2 days later saying that just plugging it in (as opposed to some mysterious secret-handshake-type button-pushing code) would fix the issue, which it did. Apparently, it’s a failsafe which saves the motor from overloading, so this grinder is likely to do this again if my beans are too hard (they specifically called out light roasts). I tend to do medium roasts, so it shouldn’t be a problem…but we’ll see.So, back to the original review.I normally use a manual grinder for my pour overs, but thought that maybe I should try an electric grinder to see if it’s a step up.I was initially a little reluctant to sign up for something else that would occasionally interrupt my usual routine (nothing worse than getting up and starting your pour over process and finding that something isn’t working properly, so you need to stop everything and get it fixed so you can continue!), but this minimizes the changes of that with a battery indicator, so bonus points for that.I read the instructions and followed them. It’s pretty easy to set up and I was grinding my sacrificial initial beans in no time. A few things I didn’t like: since there’s no handle/crank to remove to load beans, the top section comes off instead. It uses a twist/latching mechanism, which goes in the opposite direction you’d expect (not lefty-loosey, righty-tighty). The top is weighted on one side, so if you lay it down while loading beans, it probably won’t roll off your counter, but I always keep an eye on it.Overall, the grinder is taller than my manual ones, but it’s nice not to have a crank that unbalances it or swings around. It’s also nice to just push a button and have the machine grind my beans while I multitask the rest of the process instead of having to be high-touch and linear with every step of making my coffee. The opening also seems wider, but it’s got 3 bars/spokes instead of just 2.The downsides: there’s no non-slip grip on the bottom of the grinder, which I prefer for when I bang the cup against the counter to loosen grounds that stick. The bigger complaint is that the cup that catches the grounds is wider and shallower than my other grinders. Sure, it holds the same amount of coffee, but since it’s not as deep, the adjustment dial ends up covered in grounds that stick to the sides of the wet filter. I guess I can get either a spray bottle, but I don’t have this problem with other grinders.Overall, it grinds pretty evenly and can go pretty fine, so if I switch back over to espresso, I don’t have to change grinders. It’s a nice addition to my coffee setup, no matter what I’m method I’m using.

    Best So far!
This replaced a older plastic version. This one holds a battery charge for a very long time and is quick and grinds perfectly. Highly recommend.

    High Quality Design
Very impressed with the design of this grinder, perfect for my aero press, I’m willing to bet it travels very well. Price point is a bit high, but once you see it, and use it I feel it’s worth the price!

Stops grinding on light roast beans, even with full charge
Grinds medium and dark roast really well on battery power, but needs to be plugged in to grind harder light roast beans. Really improved the flavor of my coffee over my previous grinder. Cera was really good to work with, and even sent out a second device when the first one was failing, but in the end it was determined that the power from the battery wasn’t enough to predictably get through the (harder) light roast beans. If the grinder stops part way through the beans, just plug it in and it will finish the job.

    Breaks…disappointing
It was good while it worked but quite quickly became dysfunctional. Wouldn’t charge, would stop suddenly and then wouldn’t stop…

Cinque stelle.
