    awesome coffee grinder!
I have owned this grinder over a year now. I use it for drip coffee and cold brew, it does an amazing job and is a key “ingredient” to great coffee. Its noise level is not too loud or an offensive pitch when grinding in the morning. It does not make a mess, and has been totally reliable and trouble free. The cup comes with ‘fins’ for some reason, they seem to get in the way, so I removed them by bending them until they let go.

    Sturdy, quiet(ish), consistent
When I pulled the trigger on a Moccamaster Select coffee maker, I decided to upgrade my grinder at the same time. The Ode grinders frequently show up in articles and videos about that coffee maker due to its grind consistency for filter coffee and its price point. I’ve been using both for a month now and I’ve been very impressed.Like all Fellow products, the Ode has a simple and elegant design that looks great on the counter. The build quality is solid and the grind size dial turns easily and has a nice feel. The bean hopper was adjusted for the Gen 2 grinder and is both deeper and steeper than the Gen 1, so you can grind more beans at once and they easily slide down into the burrs without getting stuck up top.As far as grinders go, the Ode is surprisingly quiet. I worry about the noise of grinding coffee first thing in the morning, but it’s hardly noticeable from other rooms even with open doors. The burrs are widely regarded as being some of the best for general filter coffee grinding, too, and produce consistent grinds every time. The other main concern for me is retention and mess. Fellow seems to have put a lot of effort in this area for the Gen 2. Bean/grind retention is negligible, meaning you get out nearly everything that you put in with minimal leftovers. This is good both from a waste perspective and from a future-grind perspective (no stale beans hanging out in the grinder during your next use).Their “mess-free mornings” bullet point isn’t just marketing speak, either. The magnetic catch cup slides into place nicely and their anti-static tech on the output chute is genius — it works brilliantly and really does make for almost no mess during the grind process. As long as you’re not looking to grind for espresso, you probably aren’t going to find a better grinder at this price point.

    Amazing. Just do it.
Holy cow. Five stars aren’t nearly enough. Absolutely incredible from every perspective.Over the years I’ve had four different grinders. All left the same impression: they’re loud and require lots and lots of clean-up.Not this one! You will be shocked at just how quiet it is in action. Really, really, really quiet. You’ll be even more crazy over how little mess it generates. It seems to defy and downright violate whatever scientific laws exist regarding static generation. And it works quickly! And the grind quality is remarkably consistent! Where have you been my whole life? What did I do to deserve you?The hype is real. This thing is incredible. Buy and be happy.

    GARBAGE, GARBAGE, GARBAGE!
UPDATE: 12Dec23: I’ve only had this grinder a few months now. My first one turned itself on and off randomly, even in the middle of the night. I had it replaced and imagined all was well. This morning, the grinder jammed. In any other grinder I have owned, clearing a jam isn’t a big deal. I watched a video Fellows made on cleaning and unjamming the burrs and thought, that seems simple. WRONG. I removed the 4 larger screws and a small bar that is lodged in the rotating shaft. It’s supposed to just pop out now. WRONG. I finally managed to dislodge it and pull it out. Btw. There were coffee grounds everywhere, behind the cover piled and jammed, showing terrible original tolerances and fit. I cleaned everything and reassembled it. Oh, btw, they whimsically show a plastic toy dinosaur lodged in their burrs. Hilarious. I turned it on and it is 3 times louder now! It is totally out of alignment. It doesn’t shut itself off with no beans present and when i put beans in to test it, it jammed again immediately, even though I had it set to the coarsest setting. I have already wasted an hour on this piece of junk. Disassembled, cleaned and reassembled it 3 times. Festively, I see metallic flecks in the grind so the burrs are grinding against each other. I wont have to buy glitter for the holidays. Totally unusable and dangerous. I will dive back in but feel certain the only solution will be to pack it up and send it in to Fellows for service. More wasted time and time without a grinder and probably at my own postage expense. Please, consumers, yes it looks hip and pretty, but do yourself a big favor and DO NOT BUY THIS HORRIBLE MACHINE. I will now have either a $350 paper weight or a machine that will never work correctly again, Shame on you Fellows. As a first step, make a proper cleaning video for the consumers you have scalped who only want some morning coffee.ORIGINAL REVIEW: I spent many hours doing research and watching videos and reviews of grinders in this price range. Many seemed to have similar sentiments regarding this ODE 2. That is, it works relatively well, beautiful design but some cheap feeling details. I appreciated Fellows addressing the universal consensus of weaknesses in the first version, namely the need for improved burrs, a too shallow bin, and static cling making a mess. I agree with the consensus that the bin lid still feels somewhat cheap. It should be more solid feeling and better fitting and a simple magnet to hold it securely could easily remedy that. Same with that rubberized lid over the retaining cup. The cup itself is substantial and snaps in place via a magnet. But that lid on the cup just isnt quality or secure. Not unattractive, but it just doesn’t fit securely with any authority. Many mention the fins inside the cup that retain grounds and so requires elaborate tapping and pounding the cup to fully empty it.. I overcame that by simply emptying the cup on the other side avoiding contact with the fins. But still it’s just thoughtless design easily fixed at really no cost if they so desire. All those things are disappointing since they could have been easily fixed but not my big eyebrow raise. As soon as I unboxed and plugged the grinder in, any small bump or touch anywhere on the body made it turn on. Weird. But more strange is that even unattended it turns itself on! I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of my new grinder turning grinding nothing! Other times I put my beans in and it won’t turn off but acts like it’s trying to purge something stuck in there. I opened up the adjustment coarser, tap it, turn it upside down but nothing is inside. I’ve since discovered that unplugging it and plugging it back in seems to reset everything and it functions like nothing was ever wrong. That little push button on the front also seems a bit cheap to the touch and honestly would be better positioned on the side. Sitting so low on the front just seems not in line with it’s otherwise well thought out design. Oh yes, flicking that latch on the side meant to knock loose any grounds trapped in the burrs also turns the grinder back on. I’ve only had it about a week and am considering sending it back for an exchange, or just looking at other options. It’s a real shame since I really like the grinder, it’s compact look, the automatic shutoff, when it functions properly and the fairly consistent grind. As one popular online reviewer expressed, they raised the price $50 and it’s a bit iffy if it feels like a machine at the present price point, especially with many new contenders and competitors. From my current experience so far, I can’t recommend this grinder, with some of the build quality and it’s erratic behavior. As much as I want to love this machine, it’s been disappointing. As if to reinforce my frustration, as I’m writing this moment, it just turned itself on, grinding air. I also wrote to Fellow for suggestions but a week later have received no response.

Excellent grinder and unusual stylish design. If using dark roast coffee regularly do run cleaning cycle fairly regularly – follow the advice and instructions. One niggle. The model and serial number are on the bottom on a paper sticker which sits almost right on the counter. Of course right after getting it and before I’d registered it , we had a small flood on the counter which soaked the label making it partially illegible. So. I wasn’t able to register it. Customer service was not helpful you’d think that a partial serial number and purchase info from Amazon they could pin it down. So – REGISTER BEFORE YOU PUT IT INTO USE!

This product is very well designed, engineered and produces a good grind with the supplied flat burrs. Its a bit more expensive than the Gen 1 version but regarded in reviews as significantly better. Since I lack an expresso machine the inability to grind fine enough for that is not an issue, but it would be if that is your preferred coffee extraction method. For all other methods and for coarse does to medium/fine, it is very good indeed.

I need to grind fresh coffee daily, and I needed a machine that was quiet, efficient and didn’t leave a mess. I have waited a month before reviewing this product.I love the fact that there is no static. The coffee grinds 6 heaped spoons in about 20 secs. Quiet and perfect. It’s not a cheap machine, but I am really happy I spent the money.Love the magnetic part for the container. The only minor thing, a few times, the coffee has got stuck in the hopper. But a light jiggle and it’s fine.

A nice compact coffee grinder. Very easy to use, quiet compared to others that I have used. Grinds very quick and accurate. This has to be one of the best that I have owned. Would certainly recommend. Also such a small footprint on the worktop.
