MAKE CONCETRATED BREW AT HOME
The cylindrical wide-bottom design allows for a high ratio of coffee grounds. The more grounds, the richer the concentrate. And as the poet and philosopher Tupac Shakur once wrote, “the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice.” And we couldn’t agree more.
The included silicone seal will help you get your concentrate even richer as you can shake the jar worry-free to properly wet the grounds.

Works great, and very pleased with results.
I have tried to get into cold brewing coffee recently and through some recommendations, bought this. The only other method I’ve personally tried is the cheesecloth straining method from a mason jar. The flavor was great, but the straining process was a little more involved and messy than I prefer. The Toddy system was highly recommended to me, but the pricetag ultimately scared me away. I bought this on the recommendation of a family member who’s been very pleased with their results. My personal taste for coffee involves dark roast. That extends to iced coffee as well. I love the dark rich flavors associated with dark roasts. My first half-dozen batches of cold brew with this Klein filter involved a 1:4 ratio of coffee/water, followed by a 1:1 ratio of cold brew concentrate and ice/filtered water. I let the cold brew steep in the mason jar with the filter for 12-15 hours for the first half-dozen batches, and although they tasted ok, they never really impressed me. They still tasted good enough to make once a week or so however. A few days ago I made yet another batch and got side-tracked after dinner, forgetting to remove the filter with the grounds from the jar, which would’ve put me at about 15 hours. I remembered the following morning at the 24-hour mark. After removing the filter with the grounds, the cold brew concentrate smelled more flavorful, which I noticed as a big contrast to my previous results. The actual flavor itself was much more rich, and for the first time, I was impressed. For $12, this is a great kit. It’s very simple and easy to use, leaving little-to-no mess. I simply toss the grounds out into my garden and yard, in hopes it’ll actually do some good out there. This is well worth the money and with simple cleaning, it should last a very long time.

A very convenient way to make cold brew (if you’ve got a ton of canning jars laying around)
Is this brewer perfect? No. Is it really good? Yeah, it is.Cons: The silicon ring it comes with is too thick, so getting a regular jar lid screwed into place is really hard (not impossible, but unreasonably hard). As long as I get the lid mostly locked on, I don’t worry about the lack of water-tight seal, as I’m not going to shake it, or lay it on its side during brewing. But, it would be nice for it to fully seal, to protect the coffee just in case it gets knocked over, or to prevent odd smells from contaminating the coffee. This is a significant enough problem that I came close to deducting a star, except for this:Pros: The filter is very sturdy – sturdy enough that I could take a spoon and pack the grounds down in order to squeeze out as much liquid as possible. It is also fine enough that it seems to produce a surprisingly clean cup (not as clean as when a paper filter is used, but that’s to be expected).I used the filter with a quart jar, figuring I’d just make a week’s worth at a time. I grind 1/4 pound of coffee with a coarse grind, put the grounds in the filter, fill the jar with water, and screw on a canning ring/lid (as best I can). After 30 minutes or an hour, I take a spoon and break through the floating top crust of grounds, and gently push them into the water, and top off the water (as the grounds absorb water, and trapped bubbles are released, the water level drops a bit, and the jar will fit another quarter to half a cup of water). After 12 hours, I slowly lift the filter out, and prop it diagonally in the mouth of the jar to drain. I come back after 15 minutes, and use a spoon to press more liquid out of the grounds. Then I dig them out of the filter into the compost, wash out the filter and let it dry, then screw on the flip-top lid for mason jars (see below).Seriously – this is a GREAT lid to add to your setup: reCAP Mason Jars POUR, Wide Mouth, Canning Jar Lid, Black – it’s SUPER convenient. Remove the filter, screw on this lid, and pop the jar in the fridge.

Cold Brew Made Simple
I consider myself a coffee snob and I have been looking at numerous ways to brew cold for awhile now. The multitude of ways to do so cover a large spectrum and tend to be “unitaskers” which pushes me the wrong way. If I had found a way to produce good cold brewed coffee efficiently in a volume that suited my needs with a french press I wouldn’t have been looking. I found this item to be of interest because I could filter and brew with a nice compact unit that fits my large mouth mason jars. I don’t like brewing in plastic because of the potential for chemical leaching and flavor altering. This stainless unit is well made and so far as been a perfect choice for brewing coffee and can be used for sun or cold brewed tea as well. It is very easy to use and cleans up nicely and fits my needs just right. Klein Ind. is very consumer oriented and provided the product quickly and efficiently…they even sent me the paperwork, separately, that was supposed to be in the box…now that is customer service! If you like cold brew and don’t want to fuss with filters, cones and additional bulky hardware cluttering up your kitchen or storage then get yourself one of these and a large mason jar (wide mouth) and get brewing!

Simple and Sustainable
I absolutely love this reusable cold brew filter for multiple reasons:1. It is so simple; all you need is a wide mouth mason jar (which you can easily buy at a thrift store)2. It is easy to clean and does not require additional paper filters (less waste, yay!)3. The cold brew is absolutely delicious and very smooth! If you find yourself with bitter or weak cold brew, here are a few tips:- make sure to use coarsely-ground coffee beans so that you don’t have bitter micro-grounds in your final product- brew at room temperature (not in the fridge… I know it’s counter-intuitive, but it really should be called room temperature brew)- brew for between 12-24 hours; I personally brew for 24 since I like my coffee to be strong and have plenty of caffeine, but just be aware that it is extremely high caffeine content!I brought some of my cold brew in to share with my coworkers a while back and they loved it so much that I bought a second filter so we can also make cold brew in the office!
