A Solid Espresso Tool Set with a Few Quirks
I recently picked up this espresso tamper and distributor set, hoping for a reliable and well-balanced setup for my Breville portafilter. Overall, itâs a solid basic set that does the job well, though there are a couple of quirks worth mentioning. The coffee leveler is functional, but itâs not as heavy as another one I own, which slightly changes the feel when distributing the grounds. It still levels the coffee effectively, but if youâre used to a heftier model, you might notice the difference. The tamper itself has a calibration system with numbers ranging from 6 to 14. I honestly wasnât sure how these numbers translate to actual tamping pressure, but I left it at 8, and itâs working well so far. It provides a consistent tamp, which is what matters most. The set also includes a coffee cleaning brush, a nice little bonus that helps keep things tidy. For a straightforward espresso prep kit, this one delivers well, especially for those who donât want to overcomplicate the process. If youâre looking for something high-end or ultra-precise, you might want to explore other options, but for a simple, effective setup, this does the trick.

Too Expensive
The items themselves are of decent quality. The problem is that it’s still too expensive for what it is. I could get these items separately for quite a bit less.

Nice kit for 58mm portafilter
Received this kit for my 58mm portafilter for my E61 machine. I make espresso at home for myself. This is a nice kit for anyone just getting into espresso making. It comes with a springloaded tamper with a flat bottom, coffee flattener, brush, and a mat. I mostly got this kit for the coffee flattener, but i have been using the tamper as well.Starting with the tamper, the tamper is spring loaded and the pressure can be adjusted by twisting the handle. There are some markings on the side that indicate the depth of taping. There is no indication regarding the weight or pressure of tamping. So if you are trying to tamp at 30 pounds every time, this will not help you achieve that unless you grab a scale and calibrate it i guess. The flattener is also nice. Works as intended the flatten the coffee grounds prior to grinding. It is lighter than other flatteners i have seen, so i dont think you can just use the flattener and go straight to brewing the shot. You do need to tamp after you flatten.

No complaints about the product quality, they have a nice weight to them and work as they should. Nothing especially impressive but I expect these to last a while.I’ve seen these a lot on the internet and so decided to add it to my daily cup brewing process, I can’t tell any difference in taste to be honest, but hey, it feels great.

Both the tamper and the distribution tool have a good quality feel to them – nice weight and well-shaped.They make a good addition to an espresso setup although the tamper, as one other reviewer has pointed out, is not a spring-loaded calibrated tamper designed to give consistent tamping pressure. The market is flooded with these, all claiming to do just that but it’s simply not true. The very few that do click and release when the set pressure has been applied are all ridiculously expensive, and the others are trying to ride the bandwagon. Doesn’t really matter anyway as any barista will tell you that it’s almost impossible to over-tamp so just press until you don’t feel any more downward movement. That being said, these are good for ensuring a perfectly level tamp so have that small advantage over a basic tamper. The distributor is good and once you get it set up to the correct height, a bit fiddly, it does a reasonable job. For espresso though you really should be using that WDT tool to make sure you have no clumps of grounds before you tamp.Brush meh, tamper mat irrelevant but no harm in including them. The price is good, definitely. The only reason for dropping a star is because of that claim about calibrated tamping pressure!

Distributors are my favorite recent tool for espresso preparation. The “WDT” with little needles can distribute also but they are a nuisance to use and don’t settle the grounds into the portafilter. This distributor has adjustable height for different portafilters and dose levels of grounds making it a perfect fit for any setup. The set also includes a tamper with a pressure range of 6-14. Is this kg? Not sure but you just find the setting you like and then leave it there so the tamping pressure isn’t a variable in your process. The set also has a brush. I didn’t have any particular use for this, you might. The 2 main pieces are well worth the upgrade if you are just using the cheapo tamper that comes with most espresso machines.
