Product Description
At Gobena, we are passionate that everyone can Go Make a Difference.
One way to do this is by drinking GREAT coffee for a GREAT cause. Our coffee beans are purchased fresh and in season from the farmer. For example, when our Colombian partner harvests their coffee and finishes the drying process, we import the dried green coffee beans as soon as possible. Once the beans arrive, we small batch roast them. When we say fresh, we mean fresh.
We also believe that beans are roasted to bring out their original flavor. Each bean has different flavor notes and requires different roast temperatures and times. Roasting in small batches allows us to roast each bean to its full potential! Is the coffee your currently drinking over roasted? Probably so. Most roasters tend to over roast because they are using old, out of season beans. That’s why your coffee tastes burnt.
Quality Beans Fresh Roasted
Our coffee is roasted on a Joper Roaster. Manufactured in Canelas, Portugal, Joper has been manufacturing roasters since 1962 and is proud to combine the genuine quality of the European Old World with the most recent technology. Joper symbolises performance, quality and value, giving the roasters, like Gobena, a competitive advantage. All of our coffee is roasted and packed the same day.
100% Pledge
100% of Gobena’s profit goes to helping orphaned and vulnerable children throughout the world. Gobena partners with Lifesong for Orphans to work with at risk children and young adults.
Our Beginning
In the summer of 2007 in Ethiopia, Gobena, an elderly farmer, found and rescued a baby girl when she was abandoned near his home. For more than four weeks, Gobena and his wife tried to care for this newborn as best they could, but soon realized she needed more than they could offer. They carried her 5 miles to town where she was given food and shelter. This baby girl, named Eva, was adopted by a loving family from Illinois. This act of love inspired the adoptive family to start Gobena Coffee where 100% of the net profits are given to Lifesong for Orphans. Pictured above are Gobena, his wife Mulunesh and the adoptive family.

Incredible deal for gourmet coffee
The price of whole bean light roast organic Ethiopian coffee works out to be around $12 a pound. Some of the company’s profit goes to an orphanage, which made me happy. When you order, they roast the beans right then, so you are getting ultra-fresh coffee. This coffee has an incredibly delicious aroma and a rich sweet finish. I’m hooked.

Good Stuff
My wife wanted to find a fair trade coffee bean for our new Jura machine. This a very flavorful bean with hints or caramel. Not burnt or bitter. Very reasonable price and free Prime delivery.

My go-to brand for the past year
I’ve bought a 5 lb bag of Gobena coffee each month for the past year. Mostly I stick with the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, which is delicious. I used to only drink dark coffee, like French Roast. Little did I know I was missing out on the TRUE awesomeness of this beverage. Now I drink only economical, QUALITY, light roast coffee, and this is an excellent example. This Peruvian coffee is equal to their Yirgacheffe, and you can’t go wrong with either. I’ve been a little less impressed with their other offerings. I like that this company donates 100% of their profits to charity, my only problem with it is that the charity in question is a Christian charity. I have no issue with any religion, but I don’t think charity should be offered in exchange for religion, it should come from the heart with no strings attached. Christian missionaries are one of the last vestiges of colonialism that are still attacking traditional cultures and belief systems all around the world, and the “here’s a place to stay in exchange for accepting Jesus as your personal savior” really rubs me the wrong way. Anyway, I would be thrilled with this brand if they donated their profits to a quality, secular charity.

fresh and grand
Of all the Amazon coffee’s I have tried this was the best. Delivered on time, well and simply packaged, very fresh and aromatic, roasted perfectly. I was often disappointed with coffee purchases online, if you stick your nose into a new bag of coffee and you want to blow chow it’s a sign the coffee’s not fresh! Finally one that smells and tastes as good as you hope!
