They are a little small, compared to others I have owned. Apparantly designed for use on the table. I like the crank handle. I use them more for cooking. The crank allows me to get more salt/pepper quicky, enough for a recipy in the pot or pan, which is typically a lot more than a single serving on a plate.The two are identical, either or both can be for salt or pepper. The description says the grinder mechanisim is ceramic. That is good. It is corosion proof, which matters with salt. The cover is identified as stainless steel, so as to also be corosion proof. Presumably he metal rod between the cover and the grinding mechanism is also stainless steel.I has a little trouble getting the pepper grinder started. Apparanly the whole pepper corns barely fit into the grinding mechanism. It acted like it was jammed (the crank did not want to turn). But I kept working and coaxing it (I was afraid it I just forced it, I might break something). Once it got started, it works well.I like them.

Darling and Difficult for some
This is a darling set. And for folks that don’t have issues with your hands, it is great. I purchased these because I thought it would be easier to turn the handle on the grinder than continue struggling with the salt and pepper that are in the larger containers purchased at the store that are not refillable. These became impossible for me to use. However, I was so disappointed when I realized that as darling as this set is, I was not able to grind the salt and pepper. I have had to resort to an electronic version and that works for me. I hope you with strong hands enjoy this darling set.

Nice product
This set looks very nice and seems well made. It is easy to refill the salt and pepper and being able to set the size of the salt and pepper is good. My only problem is the grinding mechanism is very tight which makes it hard to grind.
